Building on last years successful event, this year we are thrilled to announce the 2nd Annual Spin For Limbs event on Sunday22nd September 2013. It will take the same format as last year with a fully supported, 100km and 50km bike ride through the beautiful Halton and Burlington Countryside, and we will also be hosting a 2km family walk followed by a BBQ and Festival including live music, face painting, dress-up and crafts. Registration for the bike ride is only $25, includes marshalled ride, 2 water stops, post ride massage and BBQ. I have ridden the course and it is excellent. Let's get a great showing from BCC!!

As many of you know I, and my orthopaedic colleagues at SickKids, treat children with complex limb deformities. These arise from developmental and growth problems, rare genetic diseases or severe trauma. Last year I developed this initiative with a grateful family who have been treated by me at SickKids who really wanted to raise awareness and funds for other families in their situation. Treatments are invariably long and complex often requiring multiple surgeries throughout childhood. Awareness for limb reconstruction is very important as many of these families have never met others in the same situation, and this annual event will give them an opportunity to do just that. Fundraising is also equally important for a number of areas such as supporting families undergoing treatments, extensive physiotherapy and other rehabilitation needs, which are rarely covered by OHIP or insurance, to provide expensive surgical equipment, provide training for future surgeons from around the world and to support vital research which will one day make a significant impact in preventing or treating complex limb deficiencies and deformities. All funds are channelled through SickKids Foundation specifically to the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery.
