Hey everyone, wondering if someone has space in their vehicle to head there for Wave 1? Thanks in advance.

Comment by Jody Nick Brown on March 21, 2016 at 10:59am

Hey Paul,

I will have space if you still need a ride. I am signed up for wave 1.

Thanks, that would be great! I'll touch base with you by email.

I'm late to consider this and registration is now closed but looks like there's an option to register at the event.

How technical is this for someone with no cross skills? Presumably I should go in Wave 2. Suggestions would be welcome.

Hey Ivana, definitely not an inexpensive event at $100 for same day registration but it is a great event for those that are not necessarily cross savvy. However, the conditions that are expected for Saturday/Sunday will make things a bit difficult to predict. It will be cold, and there's a good chance of snow. Most of the ride is on gravel and farmer roads as well as rail trails. If there is substantial snow accumulation, it will be a bit of a slog. If there isn't, I reckon that the ground will be hard (frozen and hopefully not icy) and will actually be pretty quick and grippy. If this is your first gravel event, I do recommend wave 2 to get your feet wet (so to speak) but someone with your fitness, Ivana, should certainly consider wave 1 in future. Happy to chat about this on the phone if you want, Ivana. Lemme know

Still on the fence due to weekend obligations. Looks like fun. Ivana and i have discussed, and will go in wave 2. Great to have the option to register at the event.

That's super helpful, Paul. Thank you!

I'd love to do it so will be watching the weather. And in these circumstances, the flexibility of making a game time decision might actually justify the $30 extra fee for same day registration.

Looking for recommendations on appropriate tires.  Was planning to run 32mm file treads, but not sure of this with the 5-10 cm of snow they are calling for?  Any thoughts?

Comment by Paul McKeever on March 31, 2016 at 4:19pm

No problem Ivana, happy to help more if you need it. Super fun even either way. :)

Steve: I'm still waiting to see how bad it gets. I will run the same tires as Hell of the North if it accumulates (Challenge Baby Limus open tubulars - love this tire.). Otherwise, I'll also be on file treads (if they come in time for CS - settled on Clement X'Plor USH 120TPI version). Which ones are your 32mm?
