Event Description

Last year's BCC trip to London to ride at the Forest City Velodrome was a big success, so we're going back in November.

I have reserved the "Track 1" session for the BCC on Saturday, November 12.  The session is from 12:00-3:00 PM.  The $30 fee (cash only) includes the rental of a track bike.

For those who are totally new or perhaps a little rusty, the session will start with a brief introduction to the basics of riding a fixed gear bike and getting everybody comfortable on the track.  Rob Good, our session leader, promises our group will have a blast as he quickly moves on to many more advanced skills and drills over the three hours.

If you're nervous about riding a fixie or the banked corners, don't be.  Within ten minutes you'll be amazed at how natural it feels.  You can read my post from last year for a few details and a couple of photos.

Just bring your shoes, pedals and helmet.

The session is limited to 12-14 people so please RSVP here to secure your place.

I think I am free and can go.  I can drive and take up to 4 passengers.

With 10 people confirmed here, two more confirmed off line (Jodie F. and Paul Van D.), and two people tentatively accepting, we've reached the FCV session cap of 14 riders.  The event is provisionally full.  If you're interested in attending, please post here in case somebody has to cancel.

Just under one week to go…  Here's a checklist for those who haven't been to the FCV before.
  • Shoes, pedals, helmet.
  • BCC kit… of course.
  • Floor pump: the ones on-site take lots of abuse and don't work so well.
  • Pedal wrench.
  • Arm/knee warmers and layers.  Temperature on the track is usually around 13-14C with variations based on outdoor conditions.
  • Clear or light sunglasses: whatever you'd wear outdoors riding in lower light conditions. Not essential but handy.
  • Food/drink: whatever you normally consume on a 2 1/2 or 3-hour ride.
  • Bike measurements: not critical but useful to speed up finding a bike with the closest fit: 1) seat height from the centre of the BB to the top of your saddle along the seat tube; 2) nose of the saddle to the centre of the bars.
  • Ride fee: $30 cash

Directions: FCV is south of the 401 no more than 2 minutes off the highway.  Take 401 west. Exit at Wellington Rd (exit 186).  Take Wellington Rd. south.  Turn left at Roxburgh Rd.  Follow Roxburgh Rd. approx. 250m.  FCV is on the right.

Plan to arrive for 11:30 so you have time to change, fill in the paperwork, pick your bike and be ready for the noon start.

Last time we went out for food/drinks afterwards.  Similar plan this time?

I'm hoping to catch a ride home right afterward, is anyone coming back right away and have room for one more?? sorry for the late notice, I've been out of town all week
