Hey.. looking to see who else may be participating in the Grey County Road Race (150.9 km, neutral start). The nice thing about these long races is that there are no lights, no stop signs, just the bike and your limits over a considerable timed distance but still shorter than the classics.
As this will be my longest race to date, I don't have high hopes but happy that I won't have to deal with wet suits or run legs this time. The journey is usually the hardest part and there will be plenty of recon rides to do prior to race day. While I don't have a race plan yet, I would be happy to share my training plan for those that are interested.
If you have no plans to race but are interested in just riding the route, I plan to do 1-2 recon rides prior to the race. Possible dates of recon rides (will drive up first): Apr 29/May 6; May 27/Jun 3.
The Grey County Road Race takes place on Saturday June 17th, 2017, near the Blue Mountain village. There are still plenty of discounted accommodations available at the Blue Mountain Inn or lodgings in the village. I have secured two nights at the Inn, arriving the day prior, as it is easier to ride out and relax after.
If you are also up for it, there is also a Time Trial event on the 15th of June (33.3 km), with spots limited to 250.
This is a UCI qualifying event, and the only Canadian stop, of qualifying for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships and/or Time Trial World Championships. The events will be subject to UCI regulations. If you don't have a UCI race license, you can obtain a day license at the time of registration. At the end of each race, the first 25% of each of the eight age groups are granted the right to the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships and/or Time Trial World Championships.
