The Mattamy National Cycling Centre will re-open to the public on September 8.

Registration for track certification classes A and B is already open.  These sessions get booked very quickly, so reserve your place quickly if you're interested in riding the track this coming fall-winter season.

Nice. I shall look into this.

Hi Jon, or anyone else who may know. What's the difference between the track certification classes and the Intro to Track Cycling course?

It appears the course is three sessions, which includes both the A and B certifications. Any advantage of doing that over the A and B classes separately?

BTW, registration is only open to Milton residents at the moment. Opens to the public Thursday.

Hi Chris,

Sorry, no idea what the difference is between them.

Chris,

I know this is HELLA late, but I've been somewhat out of the loop since my surgery.

The intro to track is just that.  It's a session where you get on a track bike, do some easy peasy spinning around the lower portions of the track. It's intended to just get you feeling what a fixed gear track bike is like. It doesn't, in itself, certify you for anything.  It's not required to be taken prior to Track A or Track B, it's just an optional thing.

The Track A and Track B are the actual certification courses you need for drop-in rides.  With your riding background I'd suggest going straight for the Track A certification (even if you haven't been on a fixie before).  You'll do fine.

If you want to join us for race nights (HIGHLY recommended) or go even further and race the Track O-Cup events, then you'll need to do one additional race certification class.

The race certification class is actually a ton of fun all on its own.  Basically, you ride a few different race formats, learn a bunch of great info from some really knowledgeable instructors, get a great workout, and then get race certified!

The MNCC race night I attended last year was really well organized, fairly cheap and a ton of fun. I think it was 40 bucks for 4 hours and 4 different races or something like that.

Now that I'm on the trainer again the biking bug has taken over.  I'll be at the track spinning it up asap.

Thanks Alex. That's what I figured so I'm signed up for the track A and B certifications in October.

I'll see how those go, do a few drop-in sessions, then look into race certification.

Looking forward to it and hoping to get a chance to ride with you guys on the track.
