Come out to mindset CYCLING any time between noon on Friday, March 23 and noon on Saturday, March 24. Jason will be doing a 24-hour indoor training ride as part of his preparations for Race Across America.
You read that correctly: 24 hours on either one of mindset's CompuTrainers or totally awesome E-Motion rollers. To re-create some of the RAAM experience, he'll ride a computer simulation of the race route… Continue

A warm welcome to all the new BCC Members and welcome back to all the returning BCC'ers.
Hope everyone is well and looking forward to the 2018 Season to get started I know I am!.
For those returning BCC'ers if you could take a moment to share some of your memorable experiences as a member off the BCC, just so some of the new members and potential members can get a flavour of what to expect in the Spring.
Once again… Continue

I wanted to do a quick summary of my first road season now, as it is clear that I won’t be able to attend either of the Kitchener crits or Bike the Bruce. Too bad as I was really hoping I could swing both of the criteriums, but such is life.
My main goal of this write-up is to encourage anyone who’s considered racing in the past to seriously consider coming out to a race or two (or four, or five…) next year to give it a go, and which races you might want to consider to start off… Continue

It was a dark and stormy Thursday morning when a van pulled up in front of my house, two guys jumped out, grabbed my bike and luggage and suddenly I was seated in the back seat of the van, my bike on the roof and I was taken to a local coffee shop, the Birchcliff, where we met up with some others with bike mounted on the roof or in the back seat of vehicles. This looked ominous, until I realized it was fellow members of the Beaches Cycling Club and my imagination was… Continue

Lots of fun for BCC Youth (and a couple of "youth at heart") on Friday! Facility is Joyride150 in Markham. Amazingly fun place to hang with your kids (or without them!) Here's a quick video with some highlights...
2 links inserted below (sorry- this is published on YouTube and for some reason some mobile devices seem to be having issues with it.) Seems ok on PC's...

Coming south on 9th Line from Stouffville there are some train tracks at an angle across the road. Today 3 or 4 riders in our group went down on them. Luckily it was mostly road rash and a broken top tube - it could have been much worse. So, be careful crossing these or any angled train tracks - don't be careless around them.

Do you have a CX or Mountain bike? Welcome to join in the fun.
Last year we had a blast riding the trails beside the Don bike path, so let's do it again!
6:30 pm tonight - Meet at the dog park at the west end of Taylor Creek bike path (same place as last year)
Will be riding north to Sunnybrook playing fields and back, depending on where people want to go and trail conditions.
This is a No drop ride, pace to suit.
Hope that we get some… Continue

We're planning a special event for this Friday, June 9. (The fact that it's a PA day for TDSB kids is an added bonus!) The plan is to meet at Joyride 150 in Markham (Link below) at 10am. Joyride is an indoor bike “playground” that will allow us all to build some new skills, and much more importantly, it should be insanely fun!
Any bikes are allowed, but Mountain or BMX are recommended. We are planning to get a group rate for 3 hours (between 10:30am and… Continue

The short version is that our goal going in was to get Simon as close to the top step as possible, with Luke and I aiming for reasonable placings as secondary goals. The end result was a 16th for Simon and DNF’s for both Luke and I. A poor tally, and one that came at a high cost.
The route they used for KW Classic should have been a great one, both for our strengths as well as general enjoyment of riding. It is a 12.5 km loop of rolling hills, with one moderately… Continue

The BCC colours were well represented on Saturday in Niagara, with Simon, Luke and I (James) racing in the M3 category. Simon and I wrote up our viewpoints of the race and Luke located a video from one of the MGCC riders that does a great job of capturing us on camera. At the end you'll find a selection of pictures we've picked up from the photographers there - with a bit of description of the situation. Enjoy!…

During the off-season a number of BCC members expressed interest in destination bike tours and training camps.
I have been in contact with another team that I have done destination bike tours with (Team Revolution, Klienburg) and they have scheduled a team climbing camp through Trek Travel in Greenville, South Carolina for end of April.
I have proposed doing the same camp to the BCC Race Team members for preparation ahead of the Road Racing Season at end… Continue

In September of 2016, my support team (Bruce Day & Steve Jones) and I completed the Ohio RAAM Challenge, and subsequently qualified for the Race Across America (RAAM) annual event. It was an amazing experience and one I will not soon forget. However, with that challenge behind us, it was time to think about what’s next. After careful consideration, the team decided it would best to hold off on the RAAM 2017 event. Hence, we deferred our intent to… Continue

Dear BCC friends,
If you are missing a good and very worthy idea for doing some serious good 'secret santa' work this season look no further - we're fundraising for donating bikes to youth in Regent Park... and in that process also funding the athletic programs provided to those youth groups in the challenging hours of 3 to 6 each day between school's end and parents arriving home.
The 3TO6TEAM is a group of local ambassadors supporting the MLSE… Continue

I have to use quotes for "off-season" because many of us will continue to ride outside for quite some time if this fall/winter turns out anything like last year. However, we are dealing with less sunlight and the weather may not cooperate as much, making those outside rides tough to schedule and stick to. But we still want to improve our power/skills and enjoy the camaraderie that we've built up over the spring and summer. That's where the trainer comes in, and love it or hate it - many… Continue
