Riding in the Rain, getting in practice for any type of conditions on race day.

Well despite the threat of rain, six brave souls made their way to tim hortons this morning, Jeff, Peter, Gord, and I believe Ian and Robert (two newcomers - sorry guys if I got the names wrong, my memory is brutal) were out for the ride. The weather was decidedly overcast but no rain when we began just a lot of wheel spray for those who were drafting.

my total stats, 106.3kms, avg speed of 29.2km/h, max of 60.5, total calories burned 4675 (i particularly like this chocolate cake… Continue

Pushing through the Hurt - The Psychology of Why I race!

It has been almost two weeks since I posted my training and its not because I have been slacking off!

My training and racing have taught me a couple of things. Everytime i start out on a training run, ride or swim, inevitably something is hurting. If it isn't hurting at the start, it hurts in the middle, if not the middle, something is crying out in pain at the end. We all have heard "no pain, no gain". I don't believe that has to be the case, but I do believe that you have to sweet… Continue

Group Riding Revisited: How it works...

Check this out: Courtesy of RoadBikeRider; Sourced By Greg.

---Find the right group. Ideally, it won't be more than 15% too fast or too slow for your present fitness. A big group may need to be split into 2 or 3 smaller ones to accommodate everyone. Pro teams routinely do this in early-season training. The faster group contains riders peaking for the spring classics; the slower one is looking at races later in the season.

---Follow the leader. Every… Continue

Tapering for a Race with a Successful Conclusion - Good Friday Race Completed

As I build my training to IM Canada, I have focused on several events that I will use to sharpen my race day skills. In the week(s) leading up to the event I will try to do a mini taper. The focus is on the big goal at the end of the summer, so these are "practice" runs but in each case I want to achieve the best result possible (my type A personality is always looking to win if i can).

Consequently, this past week was relatively easy from a training perspective.

Monday was a… Continue

Good Friday Race Report - A great group performance from BCC members - A strong personal performance

There were 12 or 13 BCC members at the race including James, Gord Bogden, Andrew, Peter, Mark, Jordan, Gord Lemon, Emile, Marc and probably a couple of others I missed. Many thanks to Dan and Laurie for showing up to cheer us on, it certainly gave me a boost for the sprint to the finish to hear "GO QB"

Unlike previous races, and tuesday of this week, the day was setting up to be sunny and still cold but more than bearable. I brought about 14 different sets of clothing in anticipation… Continue

Happy Birthday Albert! You'll have to wait until next week to receive your BBC birthday bumps!

Here are my stats for the ride:

Total time: 2.49.39
