Monday Mountain Biking

This week's MTB ride was well attended by Monday Night regulars - Mel, Trish, Alexx, Charlotte, Jeff, Robert, and Gord - and three new faces: Stephen "Chain Breaker" Norman, Jamie "Rabbit" Gilgen, and Evan "Don't Follow my Line" Glazer.

A bit of a slow start, as Trish had to demonstrate how hard she could ride her brand new bike, and promptly knocked her saddle apart, while Stephen decided to live up to his nickname on the…

Geez, 21k is far to go on two feet!

So I missed the ride to Goodwood this morning because my friend convinced me earlier this year that it would be fun to enter the Toronto Women's Half Marathon. Being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects (and the fact that they had mentioned the presence of both Firefighters AND Chocolate stations) I figured what the hell, and signed up. Good thing that I did, the 2000 spaces filled up rather quickly, as you can imagine.

I have had a love-hate relationship with running over the…

Toronto Criterium - The most exciting racing in Downtown Toronto

I love this race, it suits me, no hills and lots of cardio. Unfortunately they moved the race to Sunday this year from Friday the previous two years which meant fewer people out to watch. It also meant a smaller field given the divided the races up more extensively than in prior years when there was only two fields.

The M3/S4 group was probably about 50-60 riders. Different from other years, they rolled the group out from Scott street and created a rolling start…

Nove Colli

Hi All ... I'm on a cycling holiday in Riccione, Italy.

On Sunday, our group of about 15 from Toronto joined 12,000 others to ride in the Gran Fondo Nove Colli.

The 135 km short course includes 4 major climbs. They are each about 7 kms long, with 5% average gradient and a maximum 18% gradient.

Our times ranged from 5 hours to 8 hours. I came in at 7 hours and 14 minutes, but the total ride time on my computer was just over 6 hours. I stopped at…

BCC Team for Ride to Conquer Cancer?

Folks, from speaking with a number of you I am aware that there are many BCCers that are riding in the RTCC on June 12th and 13th. Is there any interest out there in forming perhaps two BCC riding groups (one for the 200km ride and another for the 200 mile ride)? I'm not on any team now, and if there is enough interest I'm happy to organize a couple of groups so we'll all have some familiar faces along the way.

Let me know if you're interested and we'll take it from…

Niagara Classic - O'Cup Race

Well it was once again time to take a beating at the hands of Effingham. Being about 10 pounds heavier than last year and less base fitness, I knew at the start this was going to be painful. Emile, Austin and I got to the race site at about 7:30, lots of time to get ready although not enough time to actually get warmed up. No issues, that is what the first 11km of this race is all about. Kudos to the race organizers who learned something from good friday as the S4s and M3s were started in…

Hi there!

Due to the platform instability issues some Ning Networks were

experiencing last week, we're taking proactive measures to ensure

that your Ning Network stays online and speedy. To make this

happen, we need to apply a patch to our database that will remedy

several minor issues that could cause further downtime in the

future. This fix will mean that your Ning Network will be down

for approximately 15-30 minutes this Friday, May 21,… Continue

Super Sunny Sunday: Goodwood Check!

Hope everyone had an enjoyable Ride.

My sincere apologies to Joel, Lauri, Brian for not seeing you at Port Union. The group was quite big and it was decided that we would bypass the Guild. I was trying to keep everyone together and completely forgot about you guys. Sorry again.

If this was your first time doing Goodwood, hope you enjoyed it or at least now can say you've done it. I know the group(s) I was with all seemed to have a good… Continue

Message from Dan, Comments welcome.

Hey all,

After a few rides, I felt that it would be beneficial if I explained it. Here's a little bit about choosing pace groups and knowing your ability/threshold and riding within it. If you are in a group and are riding at a speed that you are consistently trying hard to keep up to(without being able to take a turn at the front); try being a leader of the pace group that is slightly slower. …

Tour 4 Kids

Anyone who is thinking about this better stop thinking. Only 50 spots left and it is sold out or fully booked. Bunch of BCC members are doing this in a big group and a few of us will be doing this solo including myself. Find a wheel. It may be the most important ride you do this year!

Benefit for Christopher Uy

Hi everyone,

On Good Friday, a bunch of us attended the Good Friday road race. A lot of riders were injured in the crashes, including Patryk (that's how he broke his elbow), Jason and Alex B. The most serious crash involved a man named Christopher Uy. It was his first road race ever, and he crashed into a barrier on one of the first turns in the race. He had a serious head injury, and was kept in a medically-induced coma for several weeks while his brain healed. He is out of the coma,… Continue
