Time Flies When You're Having Fun!

Last Sunday marked quite a milestone for me....yes believe it or not, it was our one year anniversary! It was a year ago Sunday that I first set out on my hybrid to meet the group at Tim Horton's on Birchmount for what turned out to be the first of many rides with the BCC.

I still remember rolling up to the intersection of Vic Park and Gerrard, where I met Arn. He said that I looked like I was setting out for a long ride and when I told him where I was going, he smiled and said that… Continue

RETURN OF MUD MAN - 24hour MTB race report

17km, no 15 km, no 13 km of more fun in the muck that Mom and Dad would ever let me have.

My partner from work (not Melani) and I have done race this every year for the last 12 years. The goals are not too lofty - we want to have fun, remain friends and not finish last. We have done it as a 6 man corporate team, 5 man age group team a bunch of times, tag teams twice. Most years we have some challenges to overcome, a little rain, maybe the lights don't last thru a night lap, maybe a… Continue

If At First, You Succeed, Tri Tri Again! Guelph Lake Tri

The mere fact that you are reading this now, means that I am back home, safe and sound, and am not still floating around in Guelph Lake! Let me tell you the story of my first Sprint Tri.... I can remember watching tv footage of Ironman competitions in Hawaii, and as I would watch the exhausted but triumphant participants crossing the finish line, I always thought that it would be SO cool to do a triathalon....only one thing stood in my way. A long-standing fear of the water, and as a result, an… Continue

Race Across America

Our local guy Peter Oyler is currently in 3rd place after 4 check points and 294 miles. Way to go Peter.

This race is from Pacific to Atlantic, approximately 3000 miles and the winner will complete in around 8 days.

Think about our group rides, the fast group goes 30 to 32 kph average for 100km, Peter and the two ahead of him rode the thru the first 300m (480km) at an average speed around 20mph (32kph). AMAZING!

Oh yah, the clock keeps going when he stops.

We Came, We Rode, We Intend To Conquer! The Ride to Conquer Cancer 2009

What an awesome weekend for a bike ride! I feel very fortunate to have been able to participate once again in the Ride to Conquer Cancer this year. Looking at two days of sun and NO RAIN, I was looking forward to this event all week.

Day One started off rather uneventfully - donning the ride's trademark yellow jersey (the only time I figure that I'll be wearing a yellow jersey!) and joining the other 3,000+ riders taking part in this year's event.

I was happy to see some BCCers as I… Continue

Nomination for the True Grit and Courage Award

Some hardcore BCC riders did the Ottawa/Kingston ride on the weekend: James, myself, Arn, Mike and Kevin. This was my first time.

If you are unfamiliar with this ride it starts in Ottawa on Saturday and you ride 177K distance to Kingston, spend the night and then ride back again the next day. The route has very few stops on mostly nice country roads with more than a few hills on the back end near Kingston. One very long and steep downhill on route awaits you as a very painful climb… Continue
