This was the 15th running of the biggest 24hr mountain bike event in North America. Organized by Chico and held at Albion Hills Conservation Area, just north of Bolton.
As it happens a work friend and I have done all 15 of them. The race is a relay format going from Saturday at 12pm and last lap starts before 12pm Sunday and across the finish before 1pm Sunday.
Wow, that was a sweatfest! Tough night with the weather conditions, but lots of people out - guess there was some pre-Beer Night calorie burning going on!
Kept it a bit short this week - some other event was going on this week on Thursday eveing... Thanks to Jodie F. for suggesting a loop ride on the way back so we could get in a double sprint!
The sprint was looking good, but I'm not sure we had a clear sprint winner this week.…Continue

Another nice turnout. A little slower average pace due to the big north wind, but good pulls on the front kept us moving. We can overcome the wind, but still need to find a way to turn lights green!
Fun descent as a group on Norfinch - fast - fast - fast. Love the big grin by Jamie at the bottom of Russell Hill-Boulton. Topped off with fast down Rosedale Valley Rd and the sprint up River.
Hope everyone had a good time, I know I did.
Any thoughts on the start…Continue
Well, once again we decided to tackle the Hairshirt. James had mentioned to us early in the year that he was thinking of doing it again and with the fun we had last year on the ride, we decided to go for it also. As the day neared, we started to count up the number of long rides that we'd been on so far...needless to say the tally wasn't so great (especially for me), and if…Continue
What happens when you have been watching RAAM and RAW unfold, cheering on the 4 women from WattsUp as they manage to finish 2nd of 7 teams (4 of which DNF’d) and crewed by our very own James Young (also a hairshirt rider)? When you are silently cheering on Canadian Jason "hammer" Lane as he tries to finish his first RAAM solo after getting hit by a car on day 3? When you read The United States of Delirium in one day? You start to romanticize about the notion of long rides. Type…Continue
Mission accomplished, I can say now that I am an Ironman!
The marathon at the end wasn't very pretty but the other parts went well.
No need to describe the difficulties of the race, QB did an excellent job last year and you can always read his blog.
The day started well with a calm and warm sea. The 3.8 km leg of the swim was slow but this was expected. My goal…
Congrats to Charles!
looks like a strong finish...stress fracture and all...only wish I could have followed along but was in Welland doing the 1/2 iron disatance with Jason, Pat and brooke (who all did very well in their own right...
here is charles stats for the day...I'm sure we'll hear the story soon
times listed are
swim, bike, run, overall, div placement and overall!!…

Rideau Lakes ride is an annual event organized by the Ottawa Cycling Club. 2 day event with and overnight stay in the student residences at Queens in Kingston. I think there are 2000 riders! The start is spread over a number of hours, and riding is generally in single or double lines of small groups.
The weather co-operated and we got two wonderful riding…Continue

Hey, where was everybody? I waited at Major Mac and Leslie until 7:40 and figured either everybody took a different route or something! Anyway, it was probably just as well I did the loop alone, no one was there to hear my darn bike creaking! It's driving me nuts and I can't figure out where it's coming from. These darn carbon bikes (whine, whine) are like guitars, they resonate with every little noise!
Anyway, here are my stats: …Continue
This morning Jim Weir and I lined up for the M3 start of the Kitchener-Waterloo Classic road race as the BCC standard bearers. (A number of other BCC members are racing, but not under our club colours - boo, hiss). I was even rocking our brand new kit!
The KW Classic has been part of the O-Cup road series for 25 years, and features a fast, semi-closed loop that is a shade under 5 km. The finish is preceded by a…Continue

This week's hills included Beechwood Drive (shorter than Brimley, but surprisingly steep for short sections) and Pottery Road. Our alternate route really didn`t allow for sprints - the closest we came was when I charged up the Rosedale Valley Road hill in the big ring (a fairly moderate grade) and dared someone to pass me. (No one did, but that was probably more because of traffic than the pace. Oh well...)
A brief shower prompted me to cut the…Continue

The forecast from…Continue
