Sunny Saturday Morning Ride: The ooZ pooL

There's no better way to start the weekend than on two wheels in the sun.  There was a big crowd at Ted Reeve at 7:00 -- no surprise.  JRod gave what he promised was his last pre-ride missive.  Most people were heading off to Stouffville.  I had planned to ride up to Whitevale as has been my usual the last few weeks.  At the last moment…

Think Thursday night Hillicious rides are too tough? Well, meet Maya.

This is Maya and her dad, Dave.  Maya is 11 years old, and tonight she laid a serious smack down on some of the best climbers in the club!

Maya's dad figured she might enjoy one of our Thursday night rides.  So atop a hybrid bike that probably weighed twice as much as the bikes some of us were riding, Maya took her place in our double paceline as we set off…

TNT Hairshirt Ride Report

On Sunday 22 June, after hoping I had put in enough kilometers on the bike, I ventured out for the Toronto-Niagara-Toronto Hairshirt.  I wasn't sure if I was going to be ready for half a day on the bike, but I was willing to give it a try.  My original plan was to go and see if I could ride with a group of similar speed and share the load (and pain, and boredom!)

As the riders began to mill around after the group photo, it was announced that it was time to start (6am). Some…

Splendid Zoo Loop Thirteen

Rolling along Lawrence

Thirteen of us decided to stick to an early Zoo Loop today. Despite our differing degrees of experience (Joe wanted an easy spin before winging off to France; Suzanne a very welcome and capable new BCCer) we stuck together like glue.

Thanks to Suzanne, Alexx, Melani, Heather, Brooke, Kara, Lynne Tatiana, Matt, Jeff, Mike, Joe for helping to start my first day of summer off perfectly. We…

Father's Day Kleinburg Rumble

I believe it was Greg Lemond who said "It never gets easier, You just go faster". That today really summed up the Sunday ride on the fabulous Kleinburg Loop.

About 20 of us pitched up, mostly by car, and some by bike at Major Mac/Leslie Car park to take on this 105km BCC classic route. Colonel Jeff Norman called all riders to order in the absence of our…

My First Trip of the Turbo Tuesday Train

I just got home from the most brilliant ride!  I joined to Turbo Tuesday Nighttime ride for the first time. It's going to be a while before I'm able to go to sleep.  What a ton of fun.  Having said that, this ride isn't going to be everybody's cup of tea.  It's consistently fast (at times very, very fast), and half the ride happens in the dark.  This makes having a fair bit of nerve and a lot of experience in tight group critical prerequisites.

Ironically, though, it's also the…

Please Read. It's kinda, really, important. Please Comment.

After last weeks talk about groups of 10 and looking out for each other in the club, it seems that most members understand the benefit of the small groups from the safety perspective, however, my feedback from this weekends ride shows there are still members that do not get the importance of the safety in smaller groups and the effect it has on the ability for…

Rider Responsibilities - Please Read and Comment

I realize that I have asked you all in the profile questions if you have read the rider's notes, however, I thought it would be best for me to help clarify by defining the responsibilities of riders in a group.  Basically taking all the riders notes and applying it to Club Rides.

I think this will really help our club be safe and ultimately result in the enjoyment for all riders. Let me know what you think.

Rider's Responsibilities - Group size 8-12…

The Alternative World Cup

Denmark(2), Germany, England, USA, Israel and Canada were represented, so just like the World Cup then, except that there were no Brazilians, and Canada actually got to join in (sorry couldn't resist), and thankfully the English guy didn't have to take a penalty against the German. Much of the pace line chatter was in Danish as the majority of the group spoke the lingo. How many group rides around Canada could lay claim to that curious statistic.…

Ride for Heart - 25 km

Did the Ride for Heart 25 km length this morning.  Fantastic weather.  I've only done this ride once about 10 years ago, so it was pretty cool to get out on the highway again.

We started the ride right at 7:00, so it was a bit crowded on the way up, but not too bad. After the turnound, traffic was very light.  It's so awesome to be on a closed course like…
