Thanks to all the members and friends of the BCC for volunteering their Sunday Ride day to help marshal the race!
It was a great success, and I'm sure some volunteers will have stories to share:)

Every year around this time the thought of racing another triathlon becomes almost unbearable. After training steadily from November until the present the concept of off season begins looking irresistible. I knew that I was running out of steam because I have barely swum or ran in the past two weeks (I'll never get tired of cycling though). It is with thoughts of enjoying my off season that Brooke and I headed out to celebrate her birthday weekend by camping in Lakeside. After a Saturday of… Continue

Ride for Karen 2009
The Ride for Karen was well represented by BCC again this year by Peter O, Kerri, Arn, Speedy Steve, Michael, Paul, Mike, (the other really fast Steve), and Peter. In true Ride for Karen style, the day started with some ominous looking clouds to the north. Luckily, our sun dance worked and the possibility of another sleet-hampered R4K dissipated. Our spirits rose, and… Continue

Well, I decided to put my triathlon skills to use and compete in the provincial time trial at Plattsville this past weekend. Off the back of my solid race at Guelph, I had high hopes that I could be competitive with this group. Last year's winning speed was 42km/hr over 37kms, which I thought was achievable.
Now one thing you need to know about racing is that some organization called the UCI (union cycliste internationale) rules all things cycling and in particular has some (in my… Continue

This is a magnificent place. Mel and I are near Florence, in a hotel that was converted from a 14th century farm in the middle of olive groves. Views, food, wine and of course the riding are fantastic. The cycling tour part of our trip is with a company that includes hotel, dinners, and 5 guided rides all over Italy. This one is in Tuscany on the most amazing roads. My favourite so far is the Setteponte (7… Continue

After getting my lock cut off and my wallet and keys stolen at the Birchmount pool on Wednesday I spent the rest of the week replacing all of my identification, financial cards, and locks on the house. As a result my grand total mileage for the week ended up being 1500m swimming, 35km cycling, and 3.5km running. If nothing else at least I knew I’d be fresh on race day although I did worry about being rusty.
When I got to the race I recognized that my toughest competition would be… Continue

So, There was an amazing turnout for the ride this morning! Finally got a chance to ride with the hammerheads, and yes it was hammer-time for sure. After the Stouffville Rd. Turn North on Leslie, speed picked up by Mr. Fantastic to 40+km/h. He maintains this speed up all false flats and then we dip in around a small pond and up a hill - barely hung on at 35km/h up the hill with a cadence of 110 at least! Once everyone else caught up, the pace just got faster! Then the… Continue
