It has been almost two weeks since I posted my training and its not because I have been slacking off!
My training and racing have taught me a couple of things. Everytime i start out on a training run, ride or swim, inevitably something is hurting. If it isn't hurting at the start, it hurts in the middle, if not the middle, something is crying out in pain at the end. We all have heard "no pain, no gain". I don't believe that has to be the case, but I do believe that you have to sweet… Continue

---Find the right group.
Ideally, it won't be more than 15% too fast or too slow for your present fitness. A big group may need to be split into 2 or 3 smaller ones to accommodate everyone. Pro teams routinely do this in early-season training. The faster group contains riders peaking for the spring classics; the slower one is looking at races later in the season.

As I build my training to IM Canada, I have focused on several events that I will use to sharpen my race day skills. In the week(s) leading up to the event I will try to do a mini taper. The focus is on the big goal at the end of the summer, so these are "practice" runs but in each case I want to achieve the best result possible (my type A personality is always looking to win if i can).
Consequently, this past week was relatively easy from a training perspective.
Monday was a… Continue

There were 12 or 13 BCC members at the race including James, Gord Bogden, Andrew, Peter, Mark, Jordan, Gord Lemon, Emile, Marc and probably a couple of others I missed. Many thanks to Dan and Laurie for showing up to cheer us on, it certainly gave me a boost for the sprint to the finish to hear "GO QB"
Unlike previous races, and tuesday of this week, the day was setting up to be sunny and still cold but more than bearable. I brought about 14 different sets of clothing in anticipation… Continue

What a great way to begin the Easter Weekend. Thanks to everyone who showed up (Dave, Mark, Steve, Albert, Jonathan, Jeff, and Francis). It was Francis's first time out with the club and seeing him ride today, I suspect this guy is going to be a contender! Great job Francis.
Happy Birthday Albert! You'll have to wait until next week to receive your BBC birthday bumps!
Here are my stats for the ride:
Total time: 2.49.39
Total distance: 73.59km

I don't know how many BCC members made it out today for a ride, but I think the conditions made for a classic case of why the mind plays such a huge role in achieving fitness, training or racing goals. Winds today were out of the north west at 62km/h. For those of you who rode or perhaps like me you went for a run, you no doubt experienced points in the ride where your ordinary speed on a flat surface was slowed to a near crawl. To the extent you were heading north (which most of us in the… Continue
