Good Friday Road Race

A very quick note here - I'm hoping that all BCC club members will share their war stories from Friday's road race.

The Good Friday Road Race is the "traditional" start to the Ontario road racing season.  2015 is shaping up to be a very successful year.  I've only got a few minutes to finish this post so I can't identify everyone who pinned on a number, but…

2015 Race Team Meeting - ALL WELCOME!

Hello everyone - welcome to 2015!

The 2015 Race Team group was setup to provide a rallying point for BCC club members who race, or who are interested in racing, with a primary objective to be a means of networking and mutual support.  The group is open to all club members interested in racing, regardless of whether you are new to racing or experienced, whether you race under BCC colours, as part of our affiliated TO Wheels Epic Sports Performance BCC race team, or for…

Think Thursday night Hillicious rides are too tough? Well, meet Maya.

This is Maya and her dad, Dave.  Maya is 11 years old, and tonight she laid a serious smack down on some of the best climbers in the club!

Maya's dad figured she might enjoy one of our Thursday night rides.  So atop a hybrid bike that probably weighed twice as much as the bikes some of us were riding, Maya took her place in our double paceline as we set off…

Good Friday Road Race

Crossing the finish line at the end of GFRR.

The Good Friday Road Race is *normally* the kick-off of the Ontario road race season.  A little different this year, as the Calabogie race near Ottawa actually started off the season, but that's a closed course - technically, it's not even a road (it's a speedway).

So once again I kicked off…

Hot and Humid Hillicious Ride

Debut of the latest kits!

Pretty snazzy!

Tonight's Polka Dot jersey goes to Jason Shuker, who just had to squeeze in that last climb.  Wasn't sure he'd be back up in time for our Tour de Scarborough, but somehow he made it!…

Thursday Hillicious Ride - Return to Brimley

Well, construction is finished on our usual hill, so back to Brimley we went!

Hope everyone had a good time - we had a large turnout, and it was nice to see that no one was taking it easy. Well, maybe Kirk, but he had a good reason (flat tire).  Great job everyone, but the King of the Mountains this week was definitely Paul M for…

Another Hillicious Thursday Evening!

Another fun evening - great to see everyone out!

Although there's some road construction happening at Brimley, the road is still open for traffic and still ride-able as long as you take it easy on the descent.  That's a warning that usually would be best applied to me, but I was taking it a bit easy tonight as I didn't want to destroy my legs…

Hot, Humid, and Hillicious!!!

Wow, what a scorcher - and I don't just mean the weather!

Thanks to everyone who came out.  The maillot à pois rouges goes to Jim Weir who utterly thrashed us on the Meadowcliff climb.    Jim also grabbed the maillot vert with a well-timed jump on the sprint finish!…

Finally! Decent weather on a Thursday night

And boy, did it bring out the riders!  A very big group tonight - welcome to all the newcomers; hope you had fun (as much fun as Brimley repeats can be..)

And a busy night with cars as well.  Please remember to keep to the side of the road, when it is safe to do so... riding side by side is not a great idea when there's lots of traffic.  We definitely…

Hillicious Ride - FINALLY!

Well, it took a few weeks but we finally had a dry Thursday night!

Guess people have been saving up there hill-climbing needs, as we had quite a big crowd this week.

Solid climbing efforts - excellent…

Hot and Humid Hillicious Ride!

Wow - what a difference a week makes!  Not quite so cold this week, nor so windy or wet!

Another incredible sprint finish and Green Jersey by Evan Glazer.  And congratulations to Trish Norman on completing her first hillicious ride and capturing the Polka Dot jersey!…

Wild and windy hillicious ride!

A small but dedicated group of BCC riders gathered on a miserable night for some hill climbing....

Nasty, nasty headwind tonight - sucked all the snap out of my legs.  Or it might have been the early morning workout at WattsUp this morning (36 minutes of Zone 4 work. Ugh.)  Either way, it was a bit of an ugly evening and as the weather started to get colder…

Hillicious Ride #2 - Another fabulous eveing!

Despite early forecasts calling for dampish conditions, our second Hillicious ride of 2013 was completed under sunny skies.

Started with a smaller group this week - no doubt many were wary of the weather.  Looking up, I don't quite know why...

Nonetheless, we picked up quite a few riders at Brimley itself as it became more and more obvious that…

Thursday Hillicious Ride #1 - Better late than never

Sorry for the late post - been crazy busy at work lately!  Then add in 5 days of figure skating practices for the kids and... anyway, you get the picture.

Last Thursday BCC kicked off its weekly Hillicious rides.  It was a warm and sunny evening, and it was great to see lots, and lots of hill climbers come out.  Enjoy the pictures...

  See you next…

Training in and around Holguin, Cuba

Hey everyone - sorry to have missed all the riding that would have happened this weekend with the (relatively) wonderful weather, but I arrived back home last night at 4:30am after a week spent riding in and around Holguin province, Cuba.  So I guess I am not all that sorry, but it would have been nice to see you all again.

Anyway, as many of you may know for the past couple of years I have made a trip south to South Carolina in March with a bunch of fellow cyclists to kick start…

Last Hurrah - Final 2012 Hillicious Ride!

Wow, BCC took over Brimley tonight!

A sizeable group of BCC riders took one last stab at Thursday evening Brimley repeats.  What a way to close out this seasons Hillicious rides!

Thanks to everyone for coming out this year - Between Thursday night rides and my own training, I estimate that I've climbed that blasted hill between 150 and 200 times this season, and I have to say it is so much more fun with company.  And it is great to…
