Patryk Biegalski Sweet January saturday Ride

With the spectacular (for January) weather the hard men of the BCC set out for a long ride. Alex, Paul M, Andrew, Charles, Ian, Bob K, Yossi and I headed for Goodwood, while David, Wayne, and Bob L headed for Stouffville. Did I miss anyone? It was a great turnout and a fantastic ride. After the fog burned off, things warmed up and some of us even enjoyed a…

Patryk Biegalski Joyride 150 - Awesome way to spend a rainy Saturday

Most people think that Joyride 150 is strictly a BMX park but, as David and I found out, this description does not do it justice. The place is an enormous, indoor cycling extravaganza. It has it all: a pretty nice XC track with some climbs, descents, rock gardens, moguls, tight turns, and various other challenges; great jumps, pump tracks, skinnies, logs, and all manner of obstacles to ride over for riders of all ability levels. So David and I armored up and headed out...…

Patryk Biegalski Fireman's CX Weekend

It was good to see Jason, Don, JJ, and Marco all out racing this weekend in what is basically the closing weekend of the season. There are a couple of more citizen's races for you diehards out there.

I had decided to upgrade to M2 and continue…

Patryk Biegalski Durham CX Race Win

Well, a local M3 race sure isn't the nationals but it's still nice to win. Here's the tale:

Don, Jason and I were all in the same race in Whitby this weekend. The course was great with a little bit of everything. Early on there was a steep run-up…

Patryk Biegalski Toronto Cyclocross - Great Video

Well, I'm definitely having lots of fun with cyclocross despite there being tons of room for improvement. The Toronto race at Centennial taught me a couple of things. First, a tire pressure of 50psi is too much, even on clinchers. I kept falling on every lap and also kept losing traction on the steep hills. Second, shifting is better than trying to power over obstacles in the big ring. Third, timing systems are highly suspect. I finished 8th in the M3 race after catching and sprinting…

Patryk Biegalski First Cyclocross Race, Done

Well, this was something totally different. I popped into an M3 CX race on Saturday and had a blast - a muddy, painful blast. It was nice seeing Don and JJ there also racing - thanks for the tips guys. The race was located in Ancaster and was well organized although a little flat for my liking. Seeing as the course organizers seemed to have a special affinity for off camber, muddy turns, I was amazed that I only fell once. Unsure where everyone finished since the results are not up yet, but…

Patryk Biegalski Tour de King

Well, King city hosted its second annual Tour de King on/off road race on Sunday and this one is well on its way to becoming a classic. What a great event. David Shedd and I both tackled this point to point 50k race and decided to ride our cross bikes rather than our mountain bikes because on the map it looked like there was a lot more gravel and paved road than trail.

The race took off after a 2km neutral section and after some sorting out I ended up in the front group of about a dozen… Continue

Patryk Biegalski Ironman Mont Tremblant - A Must Read

Well, David, Jason, Brooke and I went down to do Ironman Mont Tremblant this past weekend and it was an unforgettable experience. Wow what a great race. There are so many things to write about but I'll try to keep it as brief as possible.

First, Mont Tremblant is the perfect location for an Ironman. It's small, not very congested, and both the ski village and the surrounding area are gorgeous. The locals and area businesses welcomed the event with open arms…

Patryk Biegalski Toronto Triathlon Festival

Well, Toronto was host to a rather big time triathlon today as 1200 racers participated in the Olympic and Sprint tris and the duathlon. The BCC was well represented as Jason Charette, Jodie F, Charles, David Shedd, Jessica Campbell and I took on the Olympic distance while, Bob Lesser, Melanie Sakowski, and Brooke rocked the sprint.

The swim was held in the calm waters of the Ontario Place marina which made for fast swim times. After some drafting (it's legal in the water) I came out with… Continue

Patryk Biegalski Ironman Kentucky - Wow

Wow, where to start? I apologize in advance for the length of this blog but there so much to tell. It's almost as long as the Ironman so you really have to commit to reading this one. I spent my whole season doing long, slow rides and runs in preparation for this race which compromises top end speed a little bit but prepares you for the long grind of a ten hour race. Because of this I felt confident in my ability get to the end with some pep still in my legs. My short course…

Patryk Biegalski Cycling/Hiking Beautiful Vermont

Well, Brooke and I were back in Vermont the past week and did some great cycling and hiking. As it was supposed to rain on our first day there I decided to do a run instead of a ride. I ran up the road a bit from our campground which is located at the foot of the highest mountain in Vermont and then headed up a hiking trail to the top of a lesser mountain. I have to admit that I didn't run the whole…

Patryk Biegalski BCC Invades the Welland Half Ironman

What a great day at Welland. The water was beautiful, the temperature was perfect, and the course was fast for the Half Ironman. Jodie and I are old hats at this but for Brooke, David, and Charles this was their first Half Iron experience. Here's how it went down:

My race went well if not perfectly (At this distance there are always ups and downs during the day). The swim was great and the water clear. I found a fast group, tucked in and swam totally relaxed…

Patryk Biegalski Woodstock Sprint Tri Race Report

Brooke, Jason, David and I decided to start the season with a Sprint Triathlon to get ready for forthcoming races and get in some speedwork. I won't lie, I wanted to win this one but alas, I got beaten by a friend of mine who is in really good form. Still, second overall isn't bad, but I did discover that my swim still needs work. However, I did win my age group which brings me to the highlight of my day. I got to stand on the podium with Brooke for the first time…

Patryk Biegalski Ironman Comes to Eastern Canada!

Get those iron legs ready folks, here it is. Mont Tremblant gets an Ironman race. Below is the official article. If you want to register, better do it as soon as registration opens at noon on June 15th. These things sell out super fast. Also, Lake Placid and Ironman Canada don't even offer online registration any more so this may be your only chance. It's likely that next year's registration for this race will be open to returning athletes and volunteers only.

Patryk Biegalski Victoria's Duathlon

Well, with five BCCers, our friends from the Ajax/Pickering Triathlon Club, as well as some high school friends in attendance, Victoria's Duathlon felt at times more like a social gathering than a race. I hadn't done a Duathlon (run/bike/run) in a couple of years while Jason, David, Steve, and Kerri had never done one so it was definitely an experience. We all had a great time so I hope…

Patryk Biegalski Brooke Podiums at Wasaga Triathlon

First, congrats to Chelsea, Charles and Charles' wife on their great races today. Way to represent the BCC. Brooke entered the Give-it-a-Tri as training for next week's sprint tri and did AWESOME! She came out of the water smiling in 100th place out of 204 finishers and made a beeline for her new Cervelo. What happened then, out on the bike course, can only be described as a complete massacre. Brooke was by far the fastest woman in the race putting a minute…

Patryk Biegalski Great BCC Turnout at the Triathlon Provincial Championships

It was nice to show up for a race and be one of five BCCers on the start line. I knew that Jessica would be there but it was a pleasant surprise to see Nick, Terri, and Joyce competing as well.

The venue for this year’s Provincial Championships was Cobourg which is distinguished by…

Patryk Biegalski Awesome Race in Orillia (Brooke rocks her first Sprint Tri)

Well, I didn't win this one, but I'm really pleased with my results. I was sixth overall, first in my age group, and I beat several guys I have never beaten before. With several big time pros on the start line a win was unrealistic,…

Patryk Biegalski Woo hoo! Got my win for the year!

Well, since I already gave away the ending I’ll have to explain. I’ve had my eye on the Toronto Island Triathlon since it was revived by Multisport Canada a few years ago. Last year I finished fifth here and definitely didn’t expect a win this time (though you can always hope) given the level of competition and my sub par…

Patryk Biegalski Ahhh, beautiful Vermont.

Well, it was a great camping trip to Vermont with some seriously epic climbing. Brooke and I stayed for five days and cycled on three of them. There really is nothing like cycling through mountains, and although the Green Mountains in Vermont are not as visually stunning as the Rockies, they provide quite a challenging terrain for riding.

On the first day of riding we worked in our legs by doing a 75km ride which is about the length of the…
