***Due to Rain, and Road Conditions I strongly suggest Driving to the Event - We are all meeting at grinder for a 7:30am Departure.***

Hey All,

I just got back from driving the route.  Here are my findings:

Finch is very rough past Yonge St.  The road is pretty broken up and there is construction at Keele for the subway.  Also, because of the tractor trailers that go to the industrial areas in the west and the petroleum plant in the vicinity, there is a lot of oil in the right lane.

Based on these findings and the fact that the weather is not looking bright and sunny, I am making a call to suggest BCC'ers that plan on attending drive up to the event.  Not to mention, that the traffic trends will be worse when the event is over.  While I was doing my recon, I saw 4 cars run red lights, and 2 accidents.

Nuff said.

Meet at Grinder for 7:30AM departure.  My car is now full.  Please post here: If you are planning on going and can take someone.  MANDATORY --> BCC KIT and HELMET, Optional --> Type of Bike.

Thanks again for those that are planning on making this!!!  If the BCC ride gets rained out, and you would like to help, we would appreciate it!

I met with the organizers of the bike race today and it is really looking like a great opportunity for BCC to support cycling and show their colours!!!  BCC has been selected as the only bike volunteers. The races start at 9:00.  It is just a 2k loop which the riders do once, twice, or three times - depending on their ages. (Again - they're 11-16 year olds who, for the most part, had never ridden a bike before April).  There will be 13 teams of riders and they would like to have two senior bike volunteers (that's BCC'ers) ride with each team.

As I said, the races start at 9:00 - but at 10:00 they have an "opening ceremony" with Oh Canada, a few speeches - apparently Chief Bill Blair, Kathleen Wynne, and Rob Ford - at least - will be there and then races AND VOLUNTEER CYCLISTS will be in a parade around the route.  Finally, races will continue again but are expected to be finished by 11:45,  I can plan out a route from there for those who are interested in getting in some additional mileage.

If interested in attending - REMINDER THERE  WILL BE LOTS OF MEDIA PRESENT TOO - please respond so I know how many we have  and meet at the Driftwood Community Center at the corner of Driftwood and Jane at 8:15 Saturday morning.  You can plan to meet at The Grinder as usual at 7:00 a.m. and ride up from there (about 30k) or drive up and park at the Church at 4545 Jane Street (Misión Cristiana Voz de Restauración).

I'm in as well and would like to ride from the Grinder. Sounds like a very worthwhile event.

Lana and I are in.   I will plan a safe route up to the event.  On the way back  I think I will use the Turbo Tuesday Return back.

I will post a regular Saturday that have time commitments and can't make it.

Thanks for the support!

This sounds for a good cause and just close to ride from my place, unfortunately I am out of town until and will not be back until Saturday afternoon.

Timing is a bit tight but I should be ok to help out. See you at Grinder.

Dan, for those of us who may have to exit early could you post the "Turbo Tuesday Return"?

Jim, I will be there on Saturday. See you then.

Hate to be the one that brings up the question but is this rain or shine? Not only am I not up for fall weather in the rain, but thinking young kids trying to race bikes for the first time might be hard enough never mind in the rain. Thinking that might not be a very good idea! They are calling for 80% chance of rain all day. Do they call this event if it is raining?

Hey Jim. Alexx and I would love to assist you on this, but we have to be in Barrie for the early afternoon. We'll try to make it work and keep you posted!

YES - This ride seems to be "rain or shine" - sorry!
