Oh, and I also picked up a black MEC fleece jacket - if it's yours, please let me know. Otherwise, guess I'll be making a return trip to Jordan Station to return it....so I'm REALLY hoping that it's someone's from the BCC! :)

Good times!
Thanks Dan, for pulling it all together. Thanks to all who brought food (Lisa, Kerri, Hannah... Kerri, need help with that couscous?... I'm thinkin' perhaps) and drink (Lisa). Fantastic day all round.

Hey Dan, judging by those last couple of pix, you made it to Thirty Bench I see? Nice way to cap it off!

Glad to hear you're relatively okay, and frankly amazed to hear you're already at home, Dave. Thank you for the update. Because we were a little behind sched. already my thought was to forget about that infamous descent and subsequent climb up Fifty, and just to simply head straight down the road, but I fell off the back and decided to follow you all down. When I saw everyone stopped at that switchback I thought it might be you who was the victim, considering your earlier braking issues. Hope to see you back out in due course, and when we do, please lose those carbon wheels and that scary TT set-up, and get some proper road bars! Take care.

First off- Dave- so glad to hear you are ok- that was a serious crash and you had us all really worried. Hope to see you back on your feet (and the road) as soon as possible. Dan, Paul & everyone else that was a part of this- thanks so much- it was a great event! Aidan & Caitlin had a lot of fun meeting people and running around (Andrea didn't even need to deploy too many of our car full of toys & tents!) Kerri- hope your troop made it down there ok- the traffic looked brutal on our way back. Thanks again- DaveO.

It was all-in-all a long, amazing day. Thanks Dan for setting the 90km ride up and to ladies of the group (Lana, Jane, Olga and Maureen) for the great company, laughs and fantasic do-able pace, Olga and Ken for driving to MC and of course our fearless leader, Joseph, for leading us to Burlington. We didn't get too lost and finding fresh peaches on the way was a highlight. Our "flat as a pancake" ride has only one significant "dip" and we all seemed to manage it and felt pretty proud about it too. The rain held off for the most part and so it was all good. I even felt like I had energy for the longest ride of my life. Best wishes to Dave (my spin mentor). Get better soon!

Hey All, I also placed this recipe in the Nutrition Topic in the Forum. Thanks Tim and Hannah!

Power Bars (care of Hannah)

1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. chopped almonds
2/3 c. coconut

2 c. oats
1/2 c. crisp brown rice cereal
1/4 c. ground flax

1/2 c. brown rice syrup
1/2 c. honey
1/4 c. cane sugar
1/2 tsp. sea salt
2 tbsp ground espresso

chocolate chips

- Preheat oven to 350F
- Butter a 9" square pan, sprinkle the bottom with chocolate chips, and set aside
- Toast the nuts and coconut in a single layer until the coconut is golden and the nuts are fragrant (7 - 10 mins)
- In a large bowl, mix together the oats, cereal and ground flax.
- Once the nuts are toasted, stir them into the oats mixture - make sure everything is well distributed
- In a medium pot on the stove, combine the brown rice syrup, honey, cane sugar, salt and ground espresso. Heat over med-low heat until the honey and syrup have softened and are quite liquid
- Increase heat to medium-high, and bring to a boil, stirring often
- Boil 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
- Quickly stir the sauce into the oats mixture - make sure everything gets well coated. Move quickly here, as the syrup will start to harden almost at once.
- Still moving quickly: scrape the mixture into the prepared pan, sprinkle chocolate chips over the whole mess, then butter your hands and pat the mixture down into the pan firmly.
- Allow to cool a couple hours, then cut into 16 bars.

These keep for about a week on the counter, longer in the fridge, and indefinitely in the freezer, if well wrapped.

Note: The chewiness of the bars can be modified by altering the length of time you boil the syrup/honey mixture. Longer boil = harder bars :)

More notes: Of course, mix up the recipe as you like. I usually sub in spelt flakes for some of the oats, and the composition of nuts (pecans, walnuts, peanuts) can change too - just keep the proportions the same. Dried fruit can be mixed into the oats too, although they will make the bars softer. One thing, however - do not use corn syrup instead of the honey or brown rice syrup this recipe, as the bars will not firm up. Ever.

Hey Dave, you are one tough guy. I remember a movie quote, "Wounds heal, Chicks dig scars!", can't remember the movie though. Take time to recover properly and well see you back out soon. In the mean time maybe we can get a trailer and take turns to pull you around on the rides!

Funny Jeff, You got to spend 2 weeks with Mel now. Ready for her to kick your butt?

Nice to hear that the ride was enjoyed. It makes what I do all worth while. Building friendships through the sport of cycling = BCC.

Dave, speedy recovery for you! Let me know if you need stuff. I(and the club) is behind you. Just ask.

Get well soon! See you still haven't lost your "sense" of humour:)
