Alan, Bob, Christian, Peter, Scott and I carried the BCC flag up Warden. Welcome back to Alan, and nice to meet you Bob. After a send off from Evan, Dan and Lana, who chose warm coffee instead of the ride, we headed N up Warden. The road started dry, light snow flurries but not enough to even dampen the road. By the 401 a little dampness on the road, by 14th ave, snowing harder, by hwy 7 very hard, by 16th ave the road was covered, heavy damp flakes coated the clothes. Rather than tempt the snow gods further, we turned back down Warden.
As though on cue, the heavy snow falling changed to light flurries and road surface from snow to slush. More south, the wetter the road, and spray off the wheels was chilly! It was way colder riding when the road was wet than when it was snowy.
I think that in these conditions waterproof clothes, shoes, gloves are the key to staying comfortable. I think everyone was okay until the snow became slush, then water, on the road. As soon as the dampness got thru to skin, it was cold. Next time, I'll use the shoe covers.
Great to ride with you guys! Next week, sunshine, warm, and tail winds.
