Another Cold and Windy Sunday Ride... In May?!

So a bunch of us decided against the forecast and showed up for the 7AM Start.  With this sunrise, how can you say no?

We all gathered for 7AM and decided that we should try to make it back by 11am.

We all left as a group heading up Don Mills - some with the intention go to stouffville, or at least north of 16th Ave.  As we worked up Don Mills I made an effort to split the group into two as to accommodate the wide range of fitness/skill levels.  Even though we were split, the second group always had the first group in site.  We made the turn on 16th Ave. and after Warden, we noticed there were some riders stopped.  After further investigation, it was determined that J-Rod's new gleaming bike had a broken chain.

This was attributed to his raw power as he was sprinting on the downhill towards Kennedy.  Luckily he was safe and so was his bike, kinda.  We managed to get him to Starbucks, where he arranged to be chauffeured home.

The rest of us said out good-byes and headed south(home).  The way back was met with significant wind and threats of rain and hail.  We managed to avoid the bad precipitation,  I managed to get our entire group home in one piece.  We had 6 stronger riders rotating at the front and the rest of us just "sat in" and stayed shielded by the crazy head wind.  Great work by the new BCC'ers Simon and David.  You worked hard and well today!  Although the weather wasn't ideal, a good group, with great cohesion working well together made it all worth it!  Till next week...Comments Welcome.

As we were riding home, J-Rod was spotted in the limo:

What a difference a week makes. Last Sunday's Unionville ride was exceptional, even prompting an extension to 19th, but this week I was suffering from early on. I named my Strava ride "Take me to Sunday School" for two reasons......the first I felt that I got schooled. The Urban Dictionary defines schooled as being "taught a lesson (the hard way), to lose humiliating. It also says "Being taught the proper way to perform an action". Once I got over the embarassment of getting dropped on some hills and seeing the ladies motor on with me chasing to latch back on, there was master Dan offering me his wheel and a pull (and a few pushes as well) to get back on. He also kept giving me advice on what to watch for as well as some shouts of encouragement even when I did not think I deserved it. I am still getting comfortable riding in a group, and starting to feel better, that is when I am not coming off the back and having Master Dan treat me like Bradley Wiggins being escorted after a mechanical. Thanks everyone who gave me encouragement, let me sit on their wheel, and tooks turns on the front. A special shout out to the ladies for the company on the way to Unionville. We have to stop meeting like this.......it is becoming a habit. See everyone on the roads! Have a great week.

As inspiring as your stories have been to read, with that weather I'm still glad I went back to bed. There's always next week, I figure…

Great ride till my legs broke 4k from home, incidentally so did my tired old bike. Literally. New bike time, seriously. Thoughts? Please don't say a custom Garneau in Blurple, apparently they have some issues ;)

Melani and I were really enjoying brunch while watching the flags fluttering outside in 35kph winds.  Not judging choice, normally I'd be out too, but just saying, brunch was pretty good!
