On Good Friday, a bunch of us attended the Good Friday road race. A lot of riders were injured in the crashes, including Patryk (that's how he broke his elbow), Jason and Alex B. The most serious crash involved a man named Christopher Uy. It was his first road race ever, and he crashed into a barrier on one of the first turns in the race. He had a serious head injury, and was kept in a medically-induced coma for several weeks while his brain healed. He is out of the coma, but his progress is very slow. He has a small small and his partner hasn't been able to work as she is helping him in his slow recovery.
I know that many of you in the club were quite worried about this fellow rider. Peter Sutton discovered today that the restaurant Mildred's Temple Kitchen is having a benefit for Christopher tonight. http://www.canadiancyclist.com/dailynews.php?id=18958
I can't can't make it on such short notice, so I emailed the restaurant to find out if we could contribute in any other way. The manager Maeve Gallagher informed me that they'd be happy to accept donations for Christopher's family at the restaurant. Christopher is a chef. They will deliver the donations to Christopher's family.
If anyone is interested, I will be happy to collect any donations on the Saturday or Sunday ride, and anyone can write a cheque made out to Christopher Uy, and send it to the restaurant at the following address:
