Centurion Blue Mountain, Collingwood 2012 - BCC Represents!

Another great year at the Centurion, Blue Mountain.  A perfect day, not too cool in the morning and sunny!  Great to see so many BCC'ers come out to this well organized event.  From what I have heard, it has been all positive feedback from all that attended.

Special congratulations goes out to the Women of the BCC as they represent and managed to take home some podium finishes(C50) and "hardware".

Jessica Campbell - 3rd in her age group

Christina Meynell - 1st in her age group

Megan Towns - 2nd in her age group

Mel and Alexx ended up taking over an hour off their last year's time.  Rami and Even, thanks for keeping it tight!

Laura, Lana & I managed a great time considering I had use of half my cassette and Laura had her chain fall off multiple times.

Lynne - So proud of you, you're a trooper!  Nuff said.

On the C100, there were some strong finishes, like Paul McKeever's 4:40:11 for the C100.. That's an average of 36km/h for over 160km.  Great work Paul.

Strong finishes by Mark B., Alex S, Charles, Ian, Joe C., Steve J., Jeff N., Jason S., Tim W., Paul, Peter, Steve W., Kerri, Terri, Nick, Andre, Nick, Brian, Bob, Arn.  Sorry if I missed anyone.

This was my last big ride for the season I think and it was great. Awesome event, great weather on another tuff track. Best of all lots of great BCC riders to share the experience with. Well done to everyone!  We had a nice group who managed to stick together for most of the ride and we put in a solid performance I think. Ignore our stats as we lost much time on the breaks, but thems the breaks right. At one point we were waiting for a few to catch up to us after one of the breaks not aware that the few were up the road waiting for us. I take back all those bad things I said as I waited for the few who were waiting for us and most likely also saying bad things. As usual its the breaks that destroy the stats at the end. The tell tale signs are when you pass the same riders several times over the course of the event. But we improved things over last year and thats a good thing as compared to my age which is not improving each year. Next year I will be older, yet maybe, I might better things again? Thats a good segway I think.

Well, I managed to achieve the two goals that I'd set for this final ride of the season, do not blow up on the first climb and to ride it well, feel strong and try to shave off some time.  Done and done.  I can see now why I felt so crappy last year, that first climb is a dooozy!  had a great group to ride with and was able to take in more of the scenery and surroundings this year.  All in all a very well-organized, well-run event that is a great way to finish up the season.  I definately see more Centurion events on the horizon in coming years.  And once again, riding in a large group with several riders you don't know really does make you appreciate all the BCC is, and how fortunate we are to be members of such a strong and well-rounded club.  Thanks to all for an awesome weekend of riding and fun!  Big congrats to all the BCC Centurions!

Super event.  Sunny day with a wind that didn't seem entirely favourable at any time.  I rode with a few different groups until Creemore. From Creemore to the KOM climb I was with the same group.  After that, I was on my own.  Managed to take 20 minutes off last year's time, although my main goal was just to finish.

You could tell there were some inexperienced group riders out there. When the lead pair of the group I was in would peel off to the left, the group would follow, winding across the road.  Then the next pair would slow down, reluctant to take the lead.  Aside from that, I was glad to be in with a group that was riding safely at my speed.

The volunteers and OPP were great!

Looking forward to next year!

echo the comments above, this was another great day on the bike.  We get to ride some difficult hills and long rides, but this is different, 5 big ascents that take a steady effort.  I think all the Brimley's are great, but to really prepare we should try a day trip to the area.  Maybe next year we should do a BCC ride day in the area to get some practice!

Loved this event. It's so well-organized and run. The volunteers and police at every corner blocked traffic, gave clear direction and were encouraging. Last year, this was the first event that I'd ever signed up for. I was so nervous at the start that I thought I'd throw up. This year, thanks to Alex Stephan's delicious pasta the night before, I felt well-rested, well-fueled, and excited to do the ride. Mel and I had a goal this year to knock a half hour off our time of 4:17 from last year. We felt strong and had a great ride. Half way through, Evan waited for us at the top of the KOM climb, and we rode together. Rami caught us a short while later and the 4 of us formed a great little group for the second half of the ride, telling funny stories to distract us from all the climbing and the headwind. Evan led us out for a sprint finish on the last kilometer. I remembered something that QB had said on his Tour of California this year and I said "I'm leavin' it all on the course - LET'S GO!" The 4 of us sprinted across the finish line in a line, and Mel and I were thrilled to find out that we'd shaved an HOUR and 17 minutes off our time last year, finishing in 3 hours on the nose! What a great way to finish a season of reaching and exceeding our personal goals! Thanks Rami and Evan for riding with us, and Mel, I'm so glad to have shared this special ride with you again this year! Thanks for your company and support and feeding me bananas when I felt like I was "bonking".

Everyone had such a great ride - Lynne, Lana and Laura had great rides as well. Christina was a superhero, coming first in her age category. Megan came second in hers for the 100 mile, and Jessica whizzed by us on the first climb calling out a friendly hello as she went on to win 3rd in her category as well. I'm amazed at anyone who completed the 100-mile - my legs can't imagine doing that ride. Congratulations, everyone on their great rides and accomplishing new goals. It was so much fun to have so many BCCers there to share stories with at the finish line. What a great event!

Congrats everyone! What a great event.

Last year I was just hoping to finish the race and came in at 6:40. This year, I wanted to beat 6:00 and I came in at 5:41, so I'm pretty happy!

The best part of it was seeing half dozen BCCers waiting at the finish line and cheering me on as I crossed it! That was so cool of you all to do and it felt absolutely fantastic to be supported like that. Thank you!
