Hey All,

Not sure if anyone recalls but a year or two back someone was sabotaging MTB bridges on the Don trails. Well, I encountered something less dangerous but a notable nuisance all the same. I figured I'd put it out there...
I was actually snowshoeing the trail on the north side of the "Molars" that goes into the woods south of the parking lot:
43°42'3.07"N  79°19'55.14"W. While I was at it, I moved about five logs that were lying across the trail so they were out of the way, placing them alongside the trail. I figured at the time that it was just deadfall but a day later, I came back on my bike and encountered 15 or so logs purposefully placed across the trail every 20' - 30' or so. Some of them were placed crossed over each other so as to create an obstacle too high to negotiate unless you dismount... Judging by the tracks, even a cross country skier and a few trail runners had to bushwack to get around everything... I worked for an hour to re-clear the trail...
So, my thoughts: I first placed the logs alongside the trail so as to create a clear path but also to give a bit of reinforcement as to the direction of the trail. The latest logs I encountered were placed so as to prevent the skier and mtb-er from using the path. I'm pretty sure by the fact that most tracks went around the logs and through the forest that this only contributes to erosion / trampling of the smaller plants. So what was this person's goal? Just a nuisance?
Anyway, now I'm just rambling...
Thoughts anyone?

LOL, Nice one Andrew but there was no evidence of anyone handing out beer or eating fries.

Hey Jake, I'm by no means a MTB wiz but these obstacles were seemingly put there to impede progress and a danger in some places, rather than add fun...

LMAO "skilocross"...

Yeah, it's strange. I've actually participated in (re-)building a part of the trail last year over a weekend. The trail was eroding pretty badly in one section and I think the plan the Don Trails city guys and MTB people put together for new more sustainable sections is pretty cool. They are atempting to maintain the fun factor for those who have more MTB talent than me by adding features but those features are still much better thought out than randomly placing logs across the trail.

I'm going out there again around 4pm tomorrow if anyone is up for a short ride.

Hey Jake, did you get out on the trail? I saw some tracks today but it looks like whoever made 'em did so before the logs got put back across the trail! Here are some pics as of today, 4pm. More damn logs! I moved everything back out of the way for the second time!!
