So I am sure there was something about everyone waiting at the top of Sydenham hill to get the group together but alas, when Leigh and I got to the top there was no one in sight. That, combined with the fact that I had not committed Paul's review of the route to memory, nor printed off my own directions left us lost 1.8 km into the ride. We missed Rock Chapel Road and headed up to Dundas at which point I got a flat (2.5 km in!). Got that fixed and we figured we'd make our own route up which took us into Waterdown, north, then east, then west towards the Lion Safari before looping back through Copetown and Ancaster before making our way back into Dundas. About 65km total with a lot of rollers along the way.
Beautiful day and a nice route (except for the main street of Ancaster where Leigh was on the losing end of a run in with a curb).
We stumbled upon Lost Forest Park about a third of the way along and thought it was apropos given our situation... so picture time! We had a little visit to a country market and bakery along one of the back roads but it was too early in the ride to be tempted by the butter tarts. Saw sheep, goats, cows, horses, chickens and lamas in various fields along the way and passed two or three lakes and rivers as well. Pretty pretty.
Thanks to Dan, Paul and the other orgainizers of today's ride. It was a beautiful day to be out for a ride. Thanks for the company Leigh and I hope you heal up quickly.
