Well, last year a few rode this route, Alex, Ian and Charles of course, and I heard all about how great it was, how quiet the roads are, how wonderful the views of the rolling countryside and the lake vistas. I jumped at the chance to ride it this time.
Not to be a spoiler but, the story ends well, it was all it was billed to be.
We met at Oshawa GO at 8:10am, Alex, Charles, and Jody by train, I drove ('cause I slept in alittle). A little riding in town, over to and thru Darlington Provincial Park, Newcastle then onto Lakeshore, a great, mostly flat road with some small rolly bits. Nice tailwind helped us get to PortHope and coffee in a hurry. North from coffee took us into the teeth of the dragon - headwind, hills, and we did fine.
We should do a club ride from this spot the lakeshore road is fantastic.
Easy drive to the GO and lots of parking for those that want to drive, and easy to get there by train for those who don't.
The less adventurous could do the lakeshore out to Port Hope for good coffee and come back the same way, the more adventurous could go north like we did and 'enjoy' the rolling hills of the Ganaraska region!. The seriously silly could ride from grinder.
Here is a link to the ride -
Our ride today was 120km with 1368m of climbing, so we got our money's worth.
Hope everyone else had a great ride too!
