Great Season So Far... Thank You!

Great season so far, however as we keep adding new members to the club, I felt it was important to put out a Few quick reminders, as SAFETY is still the #1 priority on the rides:

- Please make sure to check before going into another lane.  Don't rely on the group as protection.  You need to always be checking for cars behind and in front etc.  On this note, riders at the front of the group should start to merge out when lanes are about to end 50ft before they end so as not to have any last minute shifts which can be hairy at the best of times.  Riders at the back should check for the clear and CALL "Clear" As the front riders can not see behind them.

- Hold your line on turns as not to force other riders into oncoming traffic.  Always be aware of your surroundings as sometimes we are in situation with cars on either side of us.

- Please call out obstacles and Car locations relative to the group as we seem to be negating the "Car back" call and sometimes due to the size of the group can be wider than we should be on the road.  This really leaves our groups unpredictable and a target for drivers with attitude = BAD NEWS.  Cars that buzz riders will ultimately affect the entire group as a whole.

In closing, remember that there is a difference between "riding in a group" and GROUP RIDING."  The BCC is about GROUP RIDING, which means that everyone looks out for everyone else and maintains a predictable/safe presence on the road for the safety of its members as a whole.  We maintain a high level of communication as this is the key to safe and enjoyable group riding experience for ALL!

Thanks for taking the time to read over my notes. COMMENTS WELCOME.

Hey Dan, thanks for posting this, it's easy to get lazy about communication on the bike. Some people feel self conscious about calling out hazards ("car back!" etc.) or repeating them down the line. Personally I'd rather have too much repetition than not enough, and I think riders (myself included) are more likely to call stuff out if everyone's doing it, so let's keep up the chatter.

We certainly can't count on the cars to watch out for us!
