Despite early forecasts calling for dampish conditions, our second Hillicious ride of 2013 was completed under sunny skies.
Started with a smaller group this week - no doubt many were wary of the weather. Looking up, I don't quite know why...
Nonetheless, we picked up quite a few riders at Brimley itself as it became more and more obvious that the weather was going to cooperate.
After a few Brimley repeats (and here's Patryk just before he and I got silly trying to race up the hill - ouch, ouch, ouch!), we finished up with a quick Tour de Scarborough and the leg-and-lung busting Meadowcliff climb. (How bad is it? Well, the worst part of the hill has a 17% grade. For comparison, Brimley tops out around 10%.)
Unfortunately, Jeff spilled the beans on my secret TdS route navigation technique (letting everyone know that there are signs telling us what direction to turn at every intersection) so I`m going to look into mixing things up a bit in the coming weeks.
Nonetheless, it was another fabulous ride. Our virtual maglia azzurra (climber/mountains jersey - hey, it's the Giro!) this week goes to Brooke, for quietly banging out four repeats while no one was looking. The virtual maglia rosso passion (points/sprinter jersey) goes to Brook`s husband Patryk who calmly responded to all the attacks I made on Kingston road during the return trip, and then pounced when we hit Danforth in a raw burst of power to gap the entire group on the lead into Birchcliff. Brook and Patryk feature in the above photo - they're wearing the matching Organic Athlete kits (how cute is that?).
See you all next week!
