Jason Shuker - OHIO RAAM Challenge - September 17, 2016

Dear fellow BCC’rs,

As some of you might be aware, I have signed up for the RAAM Ohio Qualifier race (September 17th), which requires me to complete a 400 Mile (644km) route.  This is one of the biggest sporting challenges I have faced to date and has required me to train for the past year in hopes of qualifying (considering) for the June 2017 RAAM event.  But first, my focus is on completing the RAAM Ohio race with the assistance of my support team, Bruce Day and Steve Jones.

In stating the above, I am asking my fellow BCC’rs if they could assist me in preparing for this event, by providing (loaning, selling, offering, advising) me with items such as:

  • Bike (used/spare) parts (wheels, cassettes, tires, tubes, CO2’s, etc…)

  • Bike Safety Equipment (front/rear lights, vests, etc…)

  • Car Safety Equipment (lights, reflector decals, flares, etc…)

  • Bike Tools (special tools, universal tools… whatever my team can use to fix/change any issues I encounter)

  • Apparel (42-43 shoes, gloves, leg warmers, arm warmers)

  • Tracking & Communication devices (Will be posting on IG, FB and BCC whenever possible… perhaps other ways to follow me)

  • Advice (absolutely open to receiving information, recommendations, tips / tricks, etc…)

I am taking two bikes with me:

Primary bike:                     Garneau Gennix R2 Ulltegra 10-speed

     Secondary bike:                Argon 18 e-112 105 9 speed

I certainly do not want to encounter issues during this event, but need to be prepared for any issues that arise and any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Call me if you have any questions or offerings.

An absolutely amazing goal, Jason! I'll be in touch to see if I can help.

We gotcha bro!  I got a room full of bike bits and pieces, especially all the easy stuff (tubes, lots of spare 'mid' range clincher tyres, CO2, lights, bottles, gels, bars).  I'll drop a bag of stuff off with you, see how it can help!  I'll shoot you a text and coordinate.

Hi Jason, Good for you for taking on this incredible challenge. I can lend you my previous pair of road shoes (Northwave size 42) and a front wheel Shimano RS11 (low quality but new, with tube and tire) that you can use as a third or fourth backup. I'll be away until September 1, but we can connect shortly after.

Sandra, Bobby and I got you covered. We have all the equipment...and maybe some advice.

We will arrange for a meeting. Maybe next weekend?

You can call me at 647-274-8629.

You beat me to it Dan!  Yes, thank you everyone for your support.  Some of you have reached out directly via text, some email and replied to this post.  Greatly appreciated.    This week has been rather busy with work as I prepare to take 2 weeks vacation to continue training and spend time with my kids, who have been incredibly supportive.  In stating that, next weekend I plan to attend the BCC rides on Saturday and Sunday.  So....

@Paul - Would love to catch up with you and discuss Ohio.  Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated.

@Jim / Sandra - Thanks for reaching out to me directly.  Next weekend would be great.   Look forward to hearing your experiences and taking in all the info I can.  Would like to have Bruce and Steve in attendance for that meeting.

@Alex - appreciate you reaching out to me via text as well. Let's touch base next week and hopefully we can meet up on one of the weekend rides.

@Mark D.  - I really appreciate your offer and will definitely take you up on it.  Yes... let's find a way to meet up post Sept 1.

Thanks also to Deanna/Sage, Bernadette, Jeff and Danielle for contacting me via text and offering assistance.  Will certainly be talking to each of you over the course of the next few weeks.

Can't say enough about the folks at BCC.   Will touch base with each of you to discuss date/time to meet.

Warmest regards,

Do you need a repair stand?  I've got a Park Tool PCS-10 you can borrow.  http://www.parktool.com/product/home-mechanic-repair-stand-pcs-10?c...

Hey John,

Need to speak with Bruce first, as he may have one ready to go for us.  Let me ask him first.

Appreciate the offer though.

Hey Jason- good to ride with you a few weekends ago- that was a good time!  Unbelievable that you are doing this.  It looks like you're well covered, but I'd be happy to contribute a few extra tubes/ CO2 or other ancillary/ support items if needed- just let me know!  Best of luck with this!  DaveO.
