Perhaps not the wisest choice after 3 weeks off due to other commitments but a truly epic ride for me this season. Gorgeous weather, great pace, no traffic and impressive countryside. I was pretty much done by the time we got back to Kleinberg (75km) but thanks to Roy, Simon and others, got back to the van at Major Mac and Leslie. I'm thinking seriously of driving back there this week with Lynn Dee to do the loop after Kleinberg again. Thanks to all for a great ride.

It was another brilliant Kleinburg Loop this week, and for me was very much a ride of three phases. We had a fantastic turnout, with probably over 30 riders, some of whom rode up from the city - Kudos!

Phase 1: "Today i've got Legs!" It was so nice to be able to get the ride rolling on decent roads, with a great initial run along Teston Road to Kleinburg. I didn't realise it at the time but the tailwind probably contributed to my feeling that i had some legs on me today, and i relished trying to push it a bit harder. On turning north after Kleinburg the wind came into play and effectively crossed the bow both on the way up to highway 9 and back down again. The gently rolling hills are a great challenge on this ride as each are slightly higher and steeper than the last. I was in the first cohort of about 20 riders, and we got strung out pretty quickly with the first few hills with Steve, Andrew, Jason et al turning up the heat, but in true BCC style reconvened at the top intermittently to make sure everyone was OK. Climbing those hills up to 9 was well worth it for the super-fast run south down Mount Wolfe Rd and King Townline S. For me that was the end of phase 1!

Phase 2: "The Burn". I was happy being pulled along by the group but realised when it was my turn to pull I had little left in the tank. After a left turn that splintered the group i waited a few seconds for Roy and suddenly realised that i couldn't bridge the gap, Luckily Andrew also waited and we set off trying to catch the train. We couldn't catch the group and to be fair i felt a little guilty being pulled 90 percent of the time. If i have any Strava PRs on that segment back to Kleinburg i need to transfer them to Andrew for the assist! As it turns out we were going quite quickly and we arrived back in Kleinburg before the train that we were chasing (!) they went a different way it seems.

This week we used the little independent coffee shop opposite Starbucks and it was quite a sight to see so many BCCers effectively taking over the patio and most of Kleinburg HIgh Street. The espresso here is particularly good and all the cakes made in-house, and the ladies who run the place delightful; we should definitely adopt this place as our own.

Phase 3 "Pay it back". Our original group of 10 or so left Kleinburg at the same time, but the 4-Quicks were off within the first few km. Scott normally drags me around and he said he was hurting a bit after having 3 weeks off the bike, so it was nice to be able to offer the same kind of pull that i had been afforded earlier in the ride. I managed to find a little gas to have a crack at the Leslie sprint down to Major Mac which felt great to finish my legs off for the weekend. Nils, Roy, Scott and Myself cantered home, 101km under our belts. Within minutes a flood of BBCers were back at the car park. I am sure i can safely say that everyone had a great ride, and i really hope we go up to Kleinburg regularly, if only to stop at that cafe.

Hey, indeed a great ride! Thanks to Jason, Andrew, Steve and Joe for the big pulls on the way home from Kleinburg. Somehow, expecting to be caught, I spent much of the ride off the front by myself. Boy, did I pay for it on the way back to the parking lot!

Speaking to Simon's comments, when I drew this route initially, it was with this independent coffee shop in mind, not the green mermaid across the street! Gotta feed the little guy!

Oh, and a little shout out the the Italian guys on the sweet Bianchis in Kleinburg, thanks for welcoming us to your turf! You're welcome down the Beach anytime!

What a difference a week makes. Last week I joined Yossi, Clark and some others for the ride up from the Grinder, rode to Kleinburg and back downtown. Boy did I ever miss out on the best part of this ride....the Albion hills! This was definitely worth the drive to Major Mack and Leslie. The pic Jason took at the top of Mount Pleasant with the Toronto skyline is epic! I wish I had the energy to turn around and see it for myself, maybe next time.

Thank you Ivana for the company on the way back from Kleinburg once we got left in the dust by the speed demons. This is a ride to be ridden more than once, but also to be cherished for how special it is. Thanks for adding it to the BCC arsenal.
