Last Hurrah - Final 2012 Hillicious Ride!

Wow, BCC took over Brimley tonight!

A sizeable group of BCC riders took one last stab at Thursday evening Brimley repeats.  What a way to close out this seasons Hillicious rides!

Thanks to everyone for coming out this year - Between Thursday night rides and my own training, I estimate that I've climbed that blasted hill between 150 and 200 times this season, and I have to say it is so much more fun with company.  And it is great to see how our (more or less) "regular" Hillicious riders have improved over the season - I`ve watched some of you go from struggling to turn over the pedals back in May to attempting (and for some, actually finishing) the hill solely in the big ring in August and September - WOW!!!  Next year's kit is going to have to feature polka dots!

As for the Points Jersey contenders, the final Danforth Ave sprint has featured some pretty impressive speeds and a real increase in strategic riding - I haven`t been able to rely on simply blasting the pace beginning at Kingston and St. Clair for quite a while (too bad - that was really working for me).  I think my favourite sprint was tonight:  Patryk executed a brilliant attack, catching the group snoozing at the light just before the Danforth-Kingston Rd split.  But our sprint skills have improved so significantly that when I launched a chase to counter the attack, everyone settled into an orderly paceline, allowing me to deliver the entire group right onto Pat`s wheel at a blistering 55 kph.  We were passing cars, folks!!!

See you all next year!

Thanks for a great, well-run season, Peter. Thursday Night Hills is one of my favourite rides - I always look forward to it.

That was an awesome attack, Andrew.  Patryk lit it up at just the right moment, and you did an amazing job in jumping onto Pat's wheel.  The rest of us were caught completely flat-footed at the light.

I gave everything to closing the gap, and the worst part was that I could see you and Pat doing an excellent job swapping turns on the front to keep your breakaway pace sky high; meanwhile, I was forced to dig deeper and deeper at the lead of the chase group.

Driving that chase was a seriously hard effort, but somehow I managed to deliver Steve J (and everyone following him) right onto Pat's wheel just before I popped (big time; in seconds I was more than 30m behind).

Even though I literally got left in the dust at that point, it was great to see how well Pat executed the attack, how well you took advantage of it, and also how composed the rest of the group was, which ultimately let us (collectively) to catch and sweep up your little breakway.

Thanks Peter for organizing this year.  It has become one of my favourite rides, which is something from someone who "hated" hills at the beginning of the season and never did a Brimley.

Peter,  thanks for mashalling, and all the great photos and posts.  BCC did take the hill last night, I think that was among the best attended Thursday's.  As always, fun, hard, and fun!

Thanks, Peter, for leading and marshalling this ride so well this year. It has been a great, always well-attended, and very inclusive weekly event. Everyone can do their own thing, yet no one gets left in the dust. And the two best parts about the Thursday ride: sometimes it's followed by Beer Night; and, only one more sleep till the weekend! Have fun skating.

sadly I missed this as I was/am out of town. Also sad its over for the year...I will likely still be heading out once or twice more on thursday evenings as I am still working towards a final 1/2 iron in Oct. I will post when I am going if anyone wants to join.

Rob - "official" Thursday night rides are done for the season.  However, there may be rides posted in the informal group for Thursday nights.

I just checked, and there is a ride planned for tonight.
