Little hint of Rain didn't hurt anyone...

I hope you all had a good/safe ride.  Brooke, Brian, Ed, hope you stuck together and had a good ride.

Rest of us headed up to goodwood.  Pace was pretty quick.  Thank you to Paul and Jim for pulling.  All in all a great ride and great group of riders.   We managed over 45km/h down Reesor.  We'll have to do that again! Jim, you made it! 2K, you're getting out of control!  Steve, thanks for the spot on the tart.  D.

The little hint of rain didn't hurt anyone, but the riding sure hurt my legs! :)

That was by far the best ride of the year for me so far. We had some really warm company and awesome group chemistry, most especially on our way home from Goodwood. Indeed, we must do it again!

Dan, kudos to you for all the leadership as well as the encouragement up front. You really helped keep the group tight for an epic journey south and also allowed me to better manage my efforts overall. Thanks for that, good sir. Until next time!

That.Was.Awesome!  Great ride everyone - my first Sunday ride this season and it was just as much fun as I remembered, and then some.  Amazing what a difference it makes when the group really communicates and works together.  It's a beautful thing!  Cheers to all - and amazing route, too Dan.

Think we made our Dan proud. Excellent group with no weak links. Thanks Dan and thanks to the group for a great ride.

Thanks for the comments everyone.  Just for those that weren't there, a recap of how it works.

1. Make sure if you are at the front you are not working at your limit for too long.  You need to hang in when you drop back.

2. If you are at the front and you're not working above 90% effort chances are you'll feel the need to speed up.  Always check the group to make sure EVERYONE IS ON, before you bring the pace up.  Sometime, you may feel good, but others may be at their limits.  It is a skill to be able to ride at your limit and check safely for riders behind you.  If you are not comfortable looking back, DON'T, instead ask "Everyone good?"

3. If you are runner up for the pulls and you are not able to hold the pace, ie. you're working at your limit holding the current pace, let the riders in front and behind you so they can safely pass you without having the pace lag when you get there and can't pull.  The key to making it seemless is communication.

4. When dropping back, signal, make sure people acknowledge your intentions before moving to the right and wave the group by on single lane roads.  It's safer than going left into traffic.

5. Riders that are not as strong, leave a little gap for stronger riders get back in the group in front of them.  ie Let stronger riders rotate more often in the paceline.

If we maintain this kind of etiquette, it makes our rides safer, faster and allows riders in the group to grow and get stronger.  It's the camaraderie that has built this club, and it should NEVER be forgotten:-)

Dan.
