In case you're thinking of a bike vacation in Italy ...
Below is an email from the Hotel Belvedere in Riccione, featuring the 2013 Nove Colli. This Gran Fondo takes place in May but the hotel needs a confirmation and deposit by the end of October. They take care of registration, transportation to and from the start, pasta and drinks at the finish.
I'm planning on going back in May 2013 for the 5th year in a row.
It's a great cycling vacation in the Emilia-Romagna region. Fly into Frankfurt or other city with a connecting flight to Bologna. The hotel arranges a bus for guests and bikes from Bologna. One year, I took the train, which was fun.
The hotel is highly rated on Trip Advisor. At that time of year, it is all cyclists. Included in the price are three buffet meals per day (food is outstanding!) and wine at dinner. There is an outdoor pool and jacuzzi. In the lower level there is a spa with saunas, turkish bath and massage.
Each day you can sign-up for one of four rides with hotel guides. They are usually 75-100+ kms.
The hotel is one block from the Adriatic, with beaches as far as you can see.
$1,200 for airfare + $1,500 for the hotel (about 115 euros per day for 10 days - shared room)
Here are some of my favourite rides for 2012 (I hope the links work, even if you don't have Strava).
Nove Colli - 130 kms. 2,500 metres of climbing. 12,000 to 14,000 participants.
San Leo - 95 kms. 1,900 metres
Urbino - 90kms. 1,400 metres
Fiorenzuolo - 40 kms. 600 metres of climbing. Coffee overlooking the Adriatic.
