Well following about 6 months of training the tour of California is looming large in my week ahead. Within the week i will be in the saddle trying to grind through the most epic physical experience i have faced. I keep reflecting on whether i have created enough resources to deal with the incessant climbing day after day. I can only hope that a watt is a watt is a watt and that whether i am climbing or riding a flat my increased watt output will carry me to the finish line.
This past week i had the pleasure of riding in las vegas at red rock canyon. Picturesque, which makes the grind up about 2200 feet of vertical more pleasant. As i road into strong headwinds uphill with the very comforting knowledge that i got to ride downhill with tailwinds on my ride back to the vegas strip it hit me smack in the face. ATOC is a point to point race, which has the very obvious possibility of always facing headwinds. OMG, this is not a comforting thought. Of course the optimists might suggest that i could have perpetual tailwinds - fat chance.
In any event, i am looking forward to the whole experience. I will blog daily and hopefully add some pictures; my garmin files (which you will be able to see on strava if you want to follow the race there) and video. i appreciate any and all of the commentary on my blogging and hope to gather a few stories from the pro peloton.
Given i will miss the niagara classic road race, good luck to all of our clubmates who saddle up for that great race. I will be feeling your effingham pain in spades!!
