BCC at the Ride for Christian - July 27th 2014

It all started when I received a call from Roger Barrett.  He called because he needed some help organizing a charity ride.  After our phone conversation I met with Roger at his office and he explained to me why he wanted to do the Ride for Christian - That he just started cycling and loves it and that his son(who has Williams Syndrome) always loves to see the cyclists go by when they are out and about in their neighbourhood.  His son Christian really gets a kick out of seeing riders pass him by.  The idea came after completing a charity bike ride last year, Roger thought it would be great to create a ride to raise awareness for Williams Syndrome and funds for genetic research at Sick Kids.  He named it "Ride for Christian".   After hearing Roger's personal story and his new found passion for cycling, I made a connection with him and his need to execute an amazing event.  Subsequent meetings involved risk management, and route planning etc.  He wanted to make his event safe, fun and challenging at the same time.  I was determined to help him do that.

I think he achieved his goal yesterday.  Everyone that showed up had a fun and safe ride and enjoyed the BBQ after.

Mission accomplished!  Till next year!

Thanks to all those that made it out to the event.  Much appreciated!  If you missed it, I'll give you a heads up for next years ride.

I agree the route was well marked and little more challenging than I thought it would be. Our BCC group ended up splitting into two groups partway into ride. In the end we all finished the ride and enjoyed participating. Overall it was a well organized event for all with lots of support for the inaugural year. This event will only get bigger and better year by year.

Yes, Steve J  deserves extra kudos for sacrificing his legs (we needed to slow him down one way or another) in helping save that little turtle from being run over by a car, or another rider. ;)

Thanks again for inviting BCC and allowing us to help support this cause!

Granted that this was an inaugural ride, it's really a success, and well organized.  I like the route, quiet road very few cars and big hills. Congratulations to Roger for executing this event, as well as congratulations to Dan's involvement.

To all BCC riders congratulations for supporting this cause.
