Tonight, a number of people from our club, the community, and other fellow cyclists from around Toronto are already set to ride around the Pharmacy Ave. and Birchmount Rd. area to show support for the bike lanes there.
This is the event description from the official facebook page:
"Help save the Pharmacy Av. and Birchmount Rd. Bike Lanes by joining us for a ride to raise awareness and to listen to what the local neighbours have to say.
Toronto City Council votes on July 13th to accept all or part of Mayor Rob Ford's Bike Plan, which calls for the removal of the bike lanes installed in 2008 on Pharmacy Ave. & Birchmount Rd.
This is a matter of personal safety for everyone who uses the roads and we will ride on Tuesday to help save the lanes."
The plan is to meet at Victoria Park station at 7:30PM, ride east on Denton Ave., north on Pharmacy Ave., east on St. Clair Ave., south on Birchmount Rd., then back west on Danforth Ave. If you do plan to come and are late, please follow that route to look for us. So you're aware, the event ends at 9:00PM.
It would be wonderful if we could get a larger contingent of BCC riders to show -- I think 3-4 of us are planning to show already. As with all politically charged issues, the more support the merrier! If you're planning to join us, please respond to this blog post (I apologize for this request being last second!).
Wish us luck!
