Rideau Lakes ride is an annual event organized by the Ottawa Cycling Club.  2 day event with and overnight stay in the student residences at Queens in Kingston.  I think there are 2000 riders!  The start is spread over a number of hours, and riding is generally in single or double lines of small groups.

The weather co-operated and we got two wonderful riding days.

BCC was well represented Alex, Bruce, Kerri, Steve, Ian, Jeff, Jon, Marcus, Dave, Steve J, Paul, Andrew, plus a few not in the photo; Arn, Joel, Ken, Micheal.  Photo at the start of the long ride in Ottawa.

There are two starts, Ottawa or Perth to give distances of 180 or 90 km per day.  That's 360km or 180km in two days.

Lots of water stations, and 4 well stocked feed stops pretty much equally spaced.  I think that any of our club members that can ride the Goodwood loop could do this ride, just ride at a comfortable pace and remember to hydrate and eat.  The road from Ottawa to Perth is fairly flat thru farmland, the real treat is the roads between Perth and Kingston. These go through the Rideau Lakes region, featuring rolling, curvy, smooth roads with few cars, fantastic.

The group split up so that fast could go fast, medium go medium and so on!

Arrive at Queen's, checkin and pick up the room key, and luggage.   Put the bike away in the room, shower and down to the dinning hall for a feast of Pasta, Strata, veggies, fruit, desserts...  They must plan about 3 portions per person, 'cause there is tons of food.

20min walk after dinner to downtown BrewPub for Dragon's Breath Ale, then back to campus.

Early start day two to miss the heat, breakfast at the dinning hall and then off to Ottawa.

Amazing how Alex stays so skinny.

It was great to ride with everyone.  Thanks for a fun weekend!

Hey forgot the wildlife count.  Lycra clad humans, one guy doing the ride in running shorts and sleeveless top (very wrong), turtles, groundhogs, and a big doe crossing the road in front of us on Sunday.

Was great fun. A tough ride both days, but always nice to be coaxed outside one's comfort zone, especially with such good company. Many thanks to everyone, particularly Jon and Marcus, for welcoming my cousin, Andrew into the fold. I think he'll not forget the experience any time soon.

Glad you guys had a good ride! Paul's cousin Andrew enjoyed riding with the BCC 'peeps and was grateful for the support. Jon, I hope that your knees are feeling better today! Great to see Steve J, Arn and Jon at the finish. I didn't do the ride - instead, I went to Gatineau Park and did a couple of loops - 70km and 1000 metres of climbing. Since all the cyclists in Ottawa were at the Rideau Lakes, I had the park all to myself! I saw only 3 other riders on my first 30km (it was also 7am) and didn't have to stop or unclip. Saw lots of critters - birds, Grouse, and 3 large snapping turtles laying their eggs by the road! I even saw a raccoon catching crayfish in a stream (who knew that they ate more than garbage!). It was a quiet, fabulous ride all by myself!

As always, a pleasure to ride with you guys!  Thanks for all the laughs and support along the way.  I felt very proud of our little train as we went through the weekend.  I have to say that there's no better place to catch up and reconnect with friends than on the road, while surrounded by beautiful scenery and great weather.  Thanks to all who participated and helped to make this weekend yet another memorable RLTC!  Cheers :)

To your comment, Kerri, the BCC riders got some nice kudos from fellow riders. One of the people (Martin from Ottawa...was on a dark grey Scott) who latched onto our train Sunday was highly complimentary of how well we ride as a group. Sure, that big group hanging onto the back wasn't doing any work, but I think we all figured we'd rather be behind our own peeps than strangers!

All I have to say is never let Ian and Alex ride side by side at the front. Slpit them up. Thanks again for dialing it back upon my many a plea for mercy. Also never let Steve Jones ride beside anyone else at the front. He has been riding too much with Ian and Alex. (Quote of the day from Jeff being "Steve made me do it").

Congrats to Dave S. for riding  a "Clean" ride. He turned himself inside out all day but not a spec was to be seen on the kit.

I am sure many other faster groups were on the course over the weekend but I do not recall getting passed by anyone going both directions. The group was certainly not out to see how many we could pass but we spent most of the two days doing just that while others sat in behind and enjoyed our efforts.

That ride gets better with age I think. Now that the pain has subsided.

Dave you forgot to mention all the turtles that you also rescued along the way - the wildlife in the Ottawa/Kingston corridor says a big thank you for your efforts! ;)
