Rideau Lakes ride is an annual event organized by the Ottawa Cycling Club. 2 day event with and overnight stay in the student residences at Queens in Kingston. I think there are 2000 riders! The start is spread over a number of hours, and riding is generally in single or double lines of small groups.
The weather co-operated and we got two wonderful riding days.
BCC was well represented Alex, Bruce, Kerri, Steve, Ian, Jeff, Jon, Marcus, Dave, Steve J, Paul, Andrew, plus a few not in the photo; Arn, Joel, Ken, Micheal. Photo at the start of the long ride in Ottawa.
There are two starts, Ottawa or Perth to give distances of 180 or 90 km per day. That's 360km or 180km in two days.
Lots of water stations, and 4 well stocked feed stops pretty much equally spaced. I think that any of our club members that can ride the Goodwood loop could do this ride, just ride at a comfortable pace and remember to hydrate and eat. The road from Ottawa to Perth is fairly flat thru farmland, the real treat is the roads between Perth and Kingston. These go through the Rideau Lakes region, featuring rolling, curvy, smooth roads with few cars, fantastic.
The group split up so that fast could go fast, medium go medium and so on!
Arrive at Queen's, checkin and pick up the room key, and luggage. Put the bike away in the room, shower and down to the dinning hall for a feast of Pasta, Strata, veggies, fruit, desserts... They must plan about 3 portions per person, 'cause there is tons of food.
20min walk after dinner to downtown BrewPub for Dragon's Breath Ale, then back to campus.
Early start day two to miss the heat, breakfast at the dinning hall and then off to Ottawa.
Amazing how Alex stays so skinny.
It was great to ride with everyone. Thanks for a fun weekend!
