A few keeners, including me, couldn't bear to put the bikes away yet so we've been riding trails in the parks, river valley's, conservation areas. Charles, Harris, Bruce and Alex have all taken turns making routes. This week was 80km thanks to Charles. It is amazing how far you can get through the city without being on roads!
Each ride has been special, last weekend really was. Brendan, Paul M, Bruce on mountain bikes, Ian, Charles, Ian, and I on our CX bikes. Trail condition varied from plowed and clear to 20cm deep snow. The deep untracked snow was actually relatively easy going. Tough was anyplace where people had gone and packed the snow. The footsteps created an inconsistent surface, and with melting temps, the packed stuff would break away and make keeping in balance a real effort. The wider tires on the mountain bikes were a little tougher going, they seemed to float on top more than the skinny CX tires.
Check out the snow packed on Paul's bike!
We had a blast, just like kids in the park! Glad Brendan got a chance to get another Canadian experience before heading home to Australia.
