After reading about the Monarch Park Stadium running track, http://beachescyclingclub.ning.com/profiles/blogs/toronto-s-largest..., I decided to head there last night with my son (6 yr) to check it out.
I'm hoping that having a softer surface to run on will help save my knees a bit.
The track was pretty amazing. It really is pretty soft and there is no doubt it is more knee-friendly to run on than sidewalks or even trails.
It's nice and long (367m I think) so 3 laps will get you over 1 km.
Here you can see the lovely blue colour of the track along with some of the four soccer fields in the middle. And my training partner. :)
A word of warning however - the place just got built and is a bit 'rustic' if you are used to going to a regular gym to workout.
The bathrooms are the first thing you see when you get there:
And there is no running water or change rooms. We didn't realize this until we got there, so we changed in the corner where the dome fabric creates a small room which gives some privacy.
We had a great time running around and will be going back. Next time, we'll wear our workout clothes such that we don't have to change there and will bring our own water.
Apparently the clubhouse will be built in the spring and hopefully will be available sometime in the summer or perhaps in the fall. They are getting some bikes, so it will be possible to do some brick workouts for triathlons.
Hope to see you there!
