Scorching Sunday Simcoe Scramble

So Kerri, Steve, Paul, Alexx, Arn, Todd, James and I decided to start at Elgin and the Leslie..... Great Start but the group was up on our tail before we got over to Vic Square. Led by the Tri Geeks: QB Express and Silly Silcox. Seemed that they were working hard and I was only able to keep the entire group together for about 5kms when it broke apart into 2 separate groups: People that wanted to Push the Pace and the Tapering T4K group. I hung back and took it easy for the warm up. When we got to Simcoe, the Tims was Packed like it always is..... Found out that Lauri decided to play twister on his bike. You probably shouldn't do that but its a game you inevitably play when you touch wheels. Hope you're OK. His helmet saved his head!(see pic)

After the short break, the faster group decided to take off an head back. It wasn't long before we caught up to them because Ian got a flat. Krazy Kevin took the opportunity to go for a swim(it was really hot!). We rolled as a group up until the Warden Turn. Alex had cassette issues...... which later led to complete ratchet failure.

All in all, really hot, but nice ride, great people and fun times as you can see from James playing the Milk Man!

Cheers Everyone. Won't be around for next weekend's Ride, so if there is anyone that wants my job for Sunday, Let me know.

Thanks,

Dan.

A very good ride for me. Sorry for the breakup DY, it occurred a little sooner than expected. Lauri, sorry to hear about the crash, I hope all is ok. I was able to average 34k/hr on my return trip from ravenshoe all the way down to kennedy and 401. A good test for two weeks from today.
As todd suggests, kudos to dan for continuing to provide great routes for the club.

The best ride this season bar none! Good riding Mike, Thi and Ian who made I made it to Unionville with! Awesome route Dan! I hope Lauri is okay!

What a great ride! Dan, you sure planned a beautiful route - lots of critters to see, very few cars, and the fresh summer farm smell can't be beat! Thanks to our slower group for all your support - I felt pretty horrible this morning, but I'm sure glad I came! That was my longest ride ever, and the fastest average speed too! Dan, thanks for your help up the hills for that first hour, and thanks for the great company everyone! I'm glad Kerri convinced me to come. James, you're a great guy to draft - the smoothest cruise control ever!

Lauri - hope you're OK. Take care of that nasty road rash - hope the shoulder and neck are feeling better soon.

And for those of you who missed Kevin's jump in the lake... he ditched the jersey, but the shoes went for the swim! Ha-ha!

Thanks again, everyone - what a great day!

Too bad the Island triathalon people didn't check our schedule for conflicts. Seems like I missed another great ride, but watching Stephen in his first triathalon was worth it!

Just to echo the sentiments above - awesome time out today! Just a truly beautiful route, and despite the heat, lovely weather! Had a really great "taper" ride (ha ha ha) and look forward to revisiting this route again, Dan. It was a great one! Alexx, you are a trooper and did amazing, despite not feeling so great at the start - glad that you came out with us! Lauri, hope you are on the mend and take care of yourself. To my fellow T4Kers, see you at camp on Friday! Cheers, K

Stellar and memorable day, Dan! Terrific, safe route. Not sure how 'taper' it was though. I'm hurtin' today! Thanks to Michael for input on the route, and the extra water! Hope Lauri is feeling better than I imagine he is today, now that all the adrenalin has worn off. Take care of that shoulder, knee and noggin, and get yourself a new helmet!
Thanks all for probably the ride of the year!

I know now that one needs to gradually work up to these long distances and refuel/hydrate often. My longest ride in the preceding month was about 110 km. My ride was going well until we approached Ravenshoe Rd. on Warden Ave., when I started to cramp up. This is when my Guardian Angels began to appear. As soon as I mentioned the hamstring cramping, Michael Cole kindly offered me 2 electrolyte pills. That gradually took care of the cramping. Thank-you Michael! A short while after being dropped from the front group and realizing I was quickly running out or gas, Adi slowed up and helped me make it to Vivian Rd. and Warden Ave. Thank-you Adi! I decided at this point to take the more direct route downtown and continue along Warden, hobbling home.
I was bonking! Not far South of Vivian, I noticed a cyclist gaining on me at a pretty good pace. I felt a tap on my shoulder, before I saw him. He said " hey a BCCer". He was dressed in full D'ornellas kit! As he passed me I decided I was going to stick to his wheel come hell or high water! Our average speed to just above Highway 7 was about 38kmh into the wind! There we found a variety store where we both refuelled. His name is Stephan, lives in the Beach and knows DY. My third Guardian Angel had appeared! Stephan drove the pace all the way into town as far as Vic. Park and Danforth. He saved my ass! Cyclists are the best people!

Didn't announce my breakaway, but kept on heading down Warden (close to home = Warden and Kingston Road). I was done for the day after doing 167kms round trip. Really nice route Dan but boy, was it hot! Hope the leg and shoulder are doing better Lauri
