Simcoe Scramble Completed! - Great Turn Out!

We had about 8 riders leave from Grinder @ 6AM, and 12 meeting at Elgin and Leslie.  The 6am Group made it to us by 7AM.  They booked it!

2-3 groups split heading north to Simcoe.  Some route alterations later, and we all convened at the variety store on the lake. We all had a quick recharge and nature break and our group started to head back.

We ended up heading out in our respective groups. After some road resurfacing on McCowan, we managed to transfer along Vivian and head down Kennedy.  At the top of the first big hill, Andrew M got a flat and Neil had some piston issues.  Neil was worried he had blown the piston in his engine but when we finished the flat, he seemed to get it working, as the fast group was racing up to the top of the hill and approaching us.  I called out the hill sprint finish.."First one to the top Gets a Pint!".  I think it was Bob T and Alex S. that duked it out with Bob winning.   They waited as they were all feeling the 160kms in their legs.  We started again as a group and kept it together till the Elgin Turn-off when a few of us were really spent.  Oh, and my car's alternator decided to stop working on the 404 just south of Steeles - that explains the later pics in the album.  All in all, a safe ride.

Comments welcome.

Great ride. To all of the guys on the ride, thanks for keeping me in the group. I was just hangin' on and couldn't have pulled, but it felt great to ride in the pack and keep up (until the last 30km - was feeling pretty dead by then). That route was great, and it was excellent company on the ride. Mel, so glad that you came and rode with us for the first 35km! Hope you had a great day with the kids!

Thanks everyone, really great ride.

Dan, total drag about your car!

It is so nice to get north of the city and ride for ages without stops!   I hope we do this one again next week.

What a day and an adventure.  This is one of my favourite rides - ever...and the effort by the group was outstanding!  As you can see from the pictures, a few of us decide to do some BCC promotional duty on the side of the 404!  Appreciate the ride home Bob (i owe you beer at the next Beer night). Dan thanks for the ride up and the return of my wheels.

That was a great one. I'd do it again soon. The route is second to none. The company was perfect. Glad you guys (Dan and car, Andrew, Neil, Steve J) all got home safely. Creepy having to stop there on the left shoulder like that.

As things worked out, I was able to do part of the ride and still get back to be with the girls....so I got the best of both worlds.

Thanks to all, for the pulls up and keeping the pace somewhat moderate until I turned back.  I am certainly looking forward to actually completing the ride in the next week or at least this season.

When I turned, my Garmin was reading a average speed of 29.6km.  It was somewhat less when I finished, but I thought the ride up was rather quick.

On the way back I passed by the faster (?) group going north and wonder if you guys got lost or something....I was not expecting that!

And then, I passed by, I think, Bob Knight and group out for his Sunday ride, again heading north along Warden.

It was hardly like riding on my own....I kept seeing people I knew.

Too bad about your car Dan....it would be a bit creepy being caught in the middle of the 404 at that time of day. Hopefully it all gets fixed soon.
