Well it's February so that can mean only one thing: time to get out of town for a ride!! I rode in Sebring, Florida this past weekend in a 24 hour event. If you like hills then do not go here. This is a seriously flat part of the world with the last half being ridden on a race track. The only reason to change gears was to exercise the fingers. It was freakishly hot by my standards...approaching 30 C although the locals had me believing the jackets don't come off until they see triple digits on the F scale. Eating during these events is an ongoing learning experience. Gels were the first against the wall closely followed by bananas. Nothing gives clarity of mind like a can of Coke and a Mars bar I must say. At the half way point I changed my clothes and put on a Canadian jersey and all the northerners came out of the wood work to say "hello".
The first 12 hours was right on target but it wasn't long after that that the breaks became longer and reaching my goal was not going to happen. I finished up with 430 km. Somewhere around 0300 I had had enough and I was only thinking of sleep. It was a great time of year for a quick road trip and I am hoping March will let us get out on familiar roads.
