Turbo Tuesday Ride Report - May 27th 2014

Paul and I had discussed trying to get new riders to the Tuesday Night rides.  We wanted to create an open invite for those that were unsure if they can handle the ride and if they could keep up(Min Riding Speed of 30kph).  Tonight was the first night we opened it up and agreed on the ride format ahead of time.  Welcome Andrea and Jason.  I think our average for the ride was 30kph+ that's in the city folks, with lights.  All I know is when I looked at my Garmin, we were going 35-45kph.  We held a steady effort up towards the crit and when we got there, allowed for 1 warm-up lap and then a bunch of "hot" laps.  Great part about this set up is if you get dropped you can just wait for the group to come along and try again to hang on for dear life.   All in all a great experience for acceleration, bike handling, and knowing your limits.

Final danforth Sprint consisted of Andrew M and Steve J leading it out(surprise, surprise)...I just sat in for the first time ever and Jrdo was behind me. After the light, I launched and so did Jrdo.  Because Jrdo is my friend I let him pass me:-).  "Its the BIke!!!" Anyways, till next week.... Oh, Alex: don't forget the right turns:-)  Paul, thanks again for taking a back seat on the ride and helping to keep everyone together - for paying it forward.

Cheers,

D.

Thanks for posting and for the kind words, Dan. Had a great time and was delighted some new people came along.... hopefully we get a few more to come out next week. It was also awesome to have you out on the ride again, Dan!

Of note, Andrea seemed right at home as she cruised around the crit with me at 40+km/h keeping  super close to my rear wheel around the corners even if I accelerated out of the apex! Moreover, JRod outsprinted me on our last "hot" lap! Great night.

Would be great to have you out with us, Simon! Next week?

This Tuesday (as always) was a blast! The scarlum crit is such a great circuit to hammer it out on.

It really helps with the confidence and I love the practice riding fast in a paceline with no stop signs!

Anyone who can keep the pace up there really should try to come out, its just too fun ;)

Also, Dan clearly altered the course and added a curvy-bit where there used to be a straight-bit.

Good thing he has spidey senses...

Great ride on Tuesday... for the non racers in the club its a great way to push your fitness and improve your bike handling skills at speed.. i know my cornering improved since joining this group ..depending on how many join in it would be nice to get an intermediate pace line going , i always drop back after two or three  killer laps at 45kph down to 30 kph just to get my wind back .. cant hang on to to the super sonic speeds that Paul and Andrew set..

I am now tempted...maybe in a few weeks...will wedge in between Jrod and Dan.
