Well, with five BCCers, our friends from the Ajax/Pickering Triathlon Club, as well as some high school friends in attendance, Victoria's Duathlon felt at times more like a social gathering than a race. I hadn't done a Duathlon (run/bike/run) in a couple of years while Jason, David, Steve, and Kerri had never done one so it was definitely an experience. We all had a great time so I hope you enjoy the pictorial and video evidence.
As for my race I finished twelfth and was quite satisfied with the result (my previous best here was 17th). I managed second in my age group and got a great workout. My first 4k run was decent and I was even able to keep up with some guys who usually outrun me. My bike started out rough with my legs still recovering from the run but after about 10k the legs came good, as the Euros say, and I was able to hammer out an average speed of 39.3km/h over the 30k course. The last 4k run was brutal and my calves and hamstrings were really cramping but fortunately I was able to finish without anything seizing up. In all, this race is a nice way to start the season. I hope everyone enjoyed the super windy conditions as much as I did. All of us with the super deep rims got knocked around pretty good in the 35km/h wind. Fun, fun, fun :) Special thanks to super-cheerleader Brooke for her camerawork and encouragement. Luv u
