Watts Up Cycling Invitation: BCC Exclusive

OK Boys and Girls,

I have spoken to Peter and Adam from Watts Up Cycling. Here is their offer to the members of the BCC:

"In light of recent developments at Lation Fitness, we'd like to offer those BCCers who are now without an indoor ride the opportunity to try out our classes. In fact, we're keen to offer this to the entire BCC gang. We'd like to offer a week of free classes, the week of Feb 9 to 15. Weekday classes need no reservation...just show up 15 minutes early and ride with us. Weekend classes need RSVP, as we have limited spots available. Our weekday classes, by and large, are instructor-led 90 minute classes. Whereas our weekend classes are (up to) 3 hour self-paced simulated rides."

Our complete schedule can be found here: http://wattsupcycling.ca/schedule.asp.

This is a great opportunity for BCC Members to try out the facility and learn about power and training in your zones. ie. So you don't burn out before the season is over!

You must me a registered BCC member to Participate. Those who have used Watts Up please comment.

Remember that you have to Bring your Bike and Use a older/trainer tire.

Thanks to Peter and Adam.

Cheers,

Dan.

I have said it numerous times before, but will volunteer it again. The facility is excellent, change room, shower, bright, clean. 24 computrainers that are nicely spread out in 3 rows of 8. space to put your liquids, food, etc. the simulated ride on various ironman courses around the world makes 3 hours fly by on the weekend. Finally, in my opinion, this is better than spinning because you cant hide, you can do a fake turn of the tension, you cant shy away from making a climb, because the data is right there in front of you and everyone else. Working with power should have the additional benefit of giving you a great sense of your fitness level developing over the course of the winter. Peter and Adam run a great shop, I have been sold - take advantage of this complimentary week, we have nothing to lose.

Ok Everyone,

So I have completed my first session at Watts Up. My thoughts: It is really focused and keeps your interest up from the change in Zones and Cadence. You will feel it at the end of the workout. Period.

If Peter and Adam continue to need help, I will be instructing on Thursday Mornings 5:45-7:30am regularly.

Try and make it out to the complementary week.... if anything, it will give you a different perspective on training.

Cheers,

Peter (one of the Wattsup owners) ran a good session yesterday, a tour de France video was projected onto a screen to for entertainment. The screen was big enough that I felt like leaning the bike during the up close descent shots!
Back for more tomorrow!

I survided the multirider! It was another good experience a Wattsup.
The ride was a 60k time trial from the Tour of Switzerland. The profile was pretty much uphill for the first half, downhill for the next 1/4 then flat for the last quarter.
The multirider is very different than the spin workouts. In the spin, you follow the cadence and power settings requested by the ride leader. Depending on the person, keeping within training plan targets may be easier with the spin.
The multirider was very fun. Tension changes by the computrainer to match the profile, shifting gears just like outside, and watching your progress and performance are very cool.
Perhaps some spin and some multirider would be a good balance!
Next stop - take the test and get the real power zone numbers
