We LOVE You KELD! Get Well soon!

Hey all,

Ok so I saw Simon's Instagram this morning that the boys were going to do a 200Km day to Collingwood and I thought AWESOME!

I was surprised to get a message from an old friend Matt Wallis who is now a fire fighter with a picture of a busted up bike.  Pic Matt sent me from the fire truck(Above)

Turns out on their way up, the small group of guys had a run in with a car making a left out to go southbound as they were headed north.  Robin and Simon jammed on the brakes and so did Keld, but he wasn't so lucky as he hit the back of the car and got catapulted and landed on his knee.  Fire and Ambulance were there within 5 mins and Simon made a call to Sunnybrook to an Orthropedic surgeon friend of his to give him a heads up on Keld's situation.  Needless to say his bike is not functional(Keld's Bike at the Fire Hall  - below)

I wanted to post this to let everyone know as I am sure if you have met or ridden with Keld and his wife Petra they are some of the nicest people around!  This is such and unfortunate event.  So I wanted to support Keld in this time and help him in his recovery with the support of the club.  BCC is one big family!

Petra will get in touch me me and keep me abreast of his progress and I will let you all know.

Oh, and of course in the Keld's style, he's like "You guys better not turn back!"

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I hope everything works out ok Keld and you are back on your new bike in no time!

Thanks Dan. A shocker for sure but we're blessed he's going to be ok. He's in the ER still and surgery should hopefully be within 8 hours although they prepared us for the fact that it may be longer.

He actually hit the passenger's door with his full force and that's where the knee (patella) shattered. So far it seems that's *all* the damage but we're still waiting for neurosurgery to take his damn neck brace off 7 hours later ... He's not so comfortable. And he can't eat or drink a thing until after surgery so it's going to a long day for him. Amazingly he has no scrapes at all.

We are seriously fortunate that he's alive and this too will heal . It won't be fun but he'll get there and he's already scheming for whatever new bike he can get his hands on !!! :).

Friends have taken the kids for the weekend so Keld and I will swap the roads for the inner workings of Sunnybrook .. But he's here with us and that's all that matters!!!

Ride safe everyone and thank you Dan for your calls and concern. The BCC family is indeed very special to us.

I was so surprised and sad to hear the news after we just passed  you guys this morning with big smiles at the beginning of your ride. I am relieved to hear that you will be OK - will be thinking of you and Petra as you overcome the next few days and weeks. Sending you both much BCC love.

On a "positive note" if there can be one, they fixed his broken wrist and now they'll rebuild his knee; he's officially BCC's 21st century 6 million dollar man!
