After thinking about it for a couple of years, I finally tried track cycling last winter at the Forest City Velodrome in London. I was instantly hooked on the amazing feeling of a completely smooth surface, no wind and banked corners. When I offered to organize a BCC road trip last March for more people in the club to try it, a dozen signed up in no time. So, I figured I'd organize another trip for this year in November.
The introductory "Track 1" sessions are on Saturdays from 12:00-3:00 PM. The three-hour instructional session costs only $30 (cash only) and includes the rental of a track bike. This is a bargain by any measure. Just bring your shoes, pedals and helmet. Don't worry if you've never ridden a fixed-gear bike before. You'll be shocked at how quickly it becomes second nature. It is, after all, just like riding a bike.
I've contacted the velodrome's operator and he'll block off a private session for the BCC if we have the numbers. We just have to confirm which Saturday in November we want to reserve. Even though it's still more than eight weeks away, we have to organize this quickly because the sessions get booked up far in advance.
Please post with your interest and which Saturday(s) in November you prefer. We'll go with the date that suits most people and reserve it with FCV within the next week or two. As soon as the date is firm I'll ask for people to confirm their place. The session is limited to 14 people.
Check out my post from last year for a description of the session and a couple of photos. I'm looking forward to seeing you on the track.
